Solved Latest update killed PWAs
-
Updated Vivaldi today to version: 5.1.2567.57
PWA for Youtube Music is no longer working. I tried to install it again but the context menu on the tab is not there anymore to do so. Screenshot attached.

See if todays update https://vivaldi.com/blog/desktop/minor-update-four-5-1/ fixes it for you all.

Hello, @jparoline, and welcome to our community!
It looks like the PWA on your Mac is already installed - that's why the context menu entry says "Open in YouTube Music" instead of "Install YouTube...". If it's not working properly, you could try performing some basic troubleshooting first. Learn more about PWA's.

Just upgraded to 5.1.2567.57 and the google chat app won't launch. Uninstalled it, and now cannot get it to reinstall.
The app would bounce twice in the tray and then the dot would disappear, no indications at all of an error.
Google chat is a PWA.

I'm having the same problem. Existing shortcuts/PWAs I made for Gmail and Google Calendar are now broken on 5.1.2567.57. When I try to launch, the icon appears in the MacOS dock briefly, then disappears. Reverting to 5.1.2567.49 fixed the problem.

@railburst I'm on an M1 air, running 11.6.4.

I have the same issue
installing previous version (5.1.2567.49) fixed it https://vivaldi.com/download/archive/?platform=mac -
It looks like a regression affecting only the macOS platform, due to some changes in Chromium. Apparently, users of other browsers were also affected. We're investigating the issue. For future reference, it's been reported as
VB-87208

I have the same exact issue after updating to latest update on Mac M1, Monterey.
-
Same issue with Youtube Music app and Calendar app (both PWAs), both don't work after current update. Deleted and re-installed, both just crash instantly.

PWA's do NOT work on MacOS. This is a blocker from me switching from Brave.

Hello, @elviskahoro, and welcome to our community!
As I have already stated above, this is a known issue, and it seems to have also affected other browsers, such as Brave. We'll let you know when it's fixed. Thank you for your patience. 😌
-
@pafflick Thanks for the help! All the best with debugging; looking forward to the update! For some reason my PWA's still work in Brave.

Having same issues, Google Chat and Messenger don't work after update, instant crash when opening.

Tried to install the outlook.com PWA after the latest vivaldi update. The install is successful and the pwa shows up on the
vivaldi://apps
page.However, the PWA won't launch.
Tried multiple times installing/removing said PWA, clearing browsing data, restarting browser to no avail.
Thank you.

I use Google's Messages For Web since I have an Android phone and I like to be able to send messages using my computer. Vivaldi recognizes Messages for Web as a PWA and gives me the option to install it. However, after installation, the PWA won't launch. Regardless of if I try to launch it from my app drawer, or by going to vivaldi:apps, the result is the same: the app hangs and eventually crashes. Vivaldi is the only browser I've used that has this issue. Even Microsoft Edge does this correctly.
I'm hoping you guys can push out a fix for this sometime soon.

Hello @connor981332 👋
Welcome to the Vivaldi forum, thank you for registering and interacting with us, it is very important.
This kind of thing requires more information to know how to help you.
What version of the browser are you using?
What features does your PC have?
Does the error occur in a clean profile, without extensions or third party programs?
Is it displayed if it is not launched as a PWA?If you have screenshots, it might help us to perform internal tests.

For me, they can be created from any version, but starting with 5.1.2567.57 when I try to start them they appear briefly in the dock and then disappear.
An app/shortcut created on or after 57 works if I roll back to 49 or earlier.
Anyone else seeing this behavior?

@winternewt said in PWAs & shortcut "apps" stopped loading with 5.1.2567.57 update on MacOS:
f I roll back to 49 or earlier
Not advised as earlier version have different Chromium browser cores, downgrade can break your browser profile and cause unforseen issues.
Try a full reset.
//Edit: Sorry, i missed post about a bug report on broken PWA on Mac.
