My youtube dont save the dark theme, and is not putting the video in full screen.
-
2 weeks ago, I've changed to a nvme on my computer, and since them my browser starting to act strange, it could be something on the config (checked it, and didnt found anything), but when I accessed my youtube it was in light mode, so naturally I changed it back to dark mode, but when I closed the youtube tab and opened youtube again, it was in light mode, it bothered me for some time, but today I just cant put a video in full screen.
I hope that somebody could help me. -

@quikim Did you install Vivaldi for All Users or the current user? Did you login with the new user name?
I suggest uninstalling Vivaldi, and resinstalling it.

This happened to me today in the middle of me browsing YouTube. I would guess that they are updating their site, which the typically do in stages so not all users get the update at the same time, and for some reason it broke the theming.
At first I thought they had changed the themes to be saved as 3rd party cookies, which I have blocked, but that doesn't seem to be the case. So I have no idea why this happens, but it sure is annoying.

@komposten How did you fix it? Reload, force reload?
Usually a forced reload solves any temporary site code/cache issue, and it's sad that this knowledge has been lost to many users who seem to think of the web more like an "app" I guess and are spoiled in that most of the time it "just works".
When I grew up with web 1.0 it was one of the first things you learned: Encounter a strange site issue - press F5. If that doesn't solve it, press Ctrl+F5 to force a reload. A mostly forgotten skill these days it seems...

I haven't fixed it. All I've done is tried reloading, force reloading, restarting Vivaldi, and enabling 3rd party cookies. And the issue still persists.
Might try to clear all site data when I'm not lazy.

@komposten Ah OK I misunderstood, thought it was something you encountered and then went away.
I know YT chooses the theme based on your OS theme setting (dark/light). You can override it in the menu:
I have no idea where it saves this preference, could be in cookies, local storage, session storage etc.
Once you reload the page it will revert back to your OS theme. If the YT theme somehow doesn't match the OS theme, then something is blocking the site from discovering your OS setting - possibly some fingerprint blocker?

Yup, and therein lies the problem. I use a light OS theme (because I can't stand Window's obsession with pure black in dark themes), but I want a dark YouTube. Previously, if you enabled the dark theme on YouTube it would keep that theme on that browser until you cleared the site data. Now it reverts to "Device theme" every time you reload the page, which kinda makes the setting pointless in the first place.

@komposten OK I had the same "issue" in my standard install (Snapshot) - the YT theme setting would be lost on reload. I prefer OS theme anyway, so I'd not noticed before testing.
Tested in clean profiles of Stable and Snapshot, was unable to reproduce - it remembered the theme setting after browser restart.
Went into devtools in my standard install and cleared site data. This logged me out of YT, then signed in again, and now the setting sticks.
The general troubleshooting step is of course to clear all cache and cookies, this will allow you to only delete data from the site with the problem.

@pathduck To quote one of my previous posts: "Might try to clear all site data when I'm not lazy."
Still haven't tried it, though. -
Interestingly enough, after a while I noticed that it wasn't only the theme setting that didn't stick. "Autoplay" also refused to stay off, and other the volume on both YouTube and YouTube Music would go up to 100 % if I refreshed (instead of remembering the last value).
Not sure what happened, but clearing the site data did fix it as expected. I guess something got corrupted in the cache/storage so that YouTube could neither save these settings nor load old ones?
