Solved Back/Forward navigation jumps two pages instead of one
-
I have mouse with dedicated buttons for going back/forward. Similar to this one.
My issue is this. When I go to Facebook, then to Twitter and then to Reddit and click back button on my mouse it takes me to Facebook instead of Twitter. How do I fix this? Vivaldi is the only program that makes this.

I can confirm the the same issue. I use an external gesture program to handle mouse gestures and causes vivaldi to go back 2 times whenever it sends
VK_BROWSER_BACK
key code. It uses this MS 'api' :
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/desktop/inputdev/virtual-key-codesOthers have reported this issue here like this topic below, the culprit must be the same:

Confirming that I, too, see this in Vivaldi v2.2.1388.37 (and can't see anything about a fix in the snapshot blogs). Chrome, Firefox, Windows File Explorer and every other program I have that uses VK_BROWSER_BACK responds normally, but Vivaldi appears to act as if it got the message twice. VK_BROWSER_FORWARD also seems to be processed twice.
This back/forward problem is very annoying (I've had years getting used to it working), so I will delay migration until it is fixed ... the big concern being that I can see mention of this problem going back 2 years, which is not comforting.

I did raise a bug report on this, back in January, just in case no one else had: VB-48118
This problem is probably the biggest thing that kept me with Firefox in the 7 months since the previous post. However, I recently realised there was a way I could work around the problem: I now use AutoHotKey to translate the VK_BROWSER_BACK and VK_BROWSER_FORWARD into Alt+Left and Alt+Right respectively - and I can do this selectively for Vivaldi (it being the only application I have that misbehaves this way on these events).
So, aside from needing to do my book shopping from Firefox (VB-48982), Vivaldi can probably work for me now - which is convenient because I have an accounting package that needs a Chromium based browser and Vivaldi is by far the best one I've found.

I have set up in my Windows settings for 3 finger swipes to either go forward or backward in browser navigation. This works just fine in other browsers but it has a very difficult time in Vivaldi. It "works" but it goes back or forward multiple pages (usually two). I have tried disabling all mouse gestures in Vivaldi settings but the issue still persists.
As this works in other browsers, it seems to be something to do with Vivaldi.
Does anyone else experience this or know a solution?

@everfang I use only two fingers in Vivaldi with te rocker gesture. Hold down the left button and click the right button - go forward one page, hold down the right button and click left - go back one page.
-
I have this problem as well and have not been able to come up with a solution. Any assistance from the community would be very helpful.
When using my computer's trackpad, I use the 3-finger left/right swipe gesture to navigate back or forward a page. This is setup in my Windows trackpad setting as normal. When I've used other browsers, the function works fine, it navigates only one page. However, when using Vivaldi, two pages are navigated instead. I will even see the skipped page for a brief second as it navigates back to the 2nd one.
I've only recently switched to Windows from MacOS (after 10 years), so I assume there may be a setting somewhere I'm missing. Though, the function works correctly in Edge, the only other browser I've used on this computer.
@everfang Were you able to come up with a solution to this, or has the problem persisted?
Thanks, and I hope to hear from the community!

@Gwen-Dragon Thank you!! I had been using an old MacBook Pro for many years with no issue, but changed to a Windows machine earlier this week, when I noticed it happening. I'll go through and follow the links for reporting a bug.
Thanks for your help!

@Gwen-Dragon I reported bug VB-70155 about this: https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/387490
As a touchpad only user, this is extremely frustrating, and is one of the reasons why i cannot use vivaldi as my main browser.

@TheBestPessimist I'm glad I'm not the only one experiencing this issue. I had no problems using the swipe gestures on MacOS. Do you suspect there is something with the Windows touchpad, or with Vivaldi?

@jroode said in Windows 10 Precision Browser Navigation:
Do you suspect there is something with the Windows touchpad, or with Vivaldi?
It's definitely a bug in Vivaldi.
I am sure of this as Firefox, Google Chrome, Chromium and Opera work correctly and only take me 1 page back in history.
Plus I have this problem on multiple Windows devices with precision touchpad -
Well I hope this is resolved since this bug seems to affect numerous touchpads.
I would ask the Vivaldi Community if you DON'T have this bug occurring, what touchpad or device are you using? It seems that this doesn't happen for everyone, so it may lead us in the right direction if we know what devices actually do function without this bug. (Of course, Vivaldi needs to address the bug as well.)
I also think the more this is brought to light and the more users with this issue, then Vivaldi will be more apt to address it.
As always, thanks for the help!

2 Years and still not fixed? It's super annoying.

The problem is with how the mouse is configured. Since Vivaldi has a custom interface, the mouse software isn't sure how to deal with it. Go to whatever software you have to configure the buttons and set both to Default button and they should then work properly.
-
As I had configured the mouse non-standard (button 5 for copy) I had to put it back to standard and then it is working properly for back and forth in Vivaldi / Windows.
I'm using the newest snapshot 3.7.2209.3. -
There is nothing magic in my mouse configuration. I use buttons 4 and 5. Every other program has no problems, just Vivaldi.
-
@Oomek Which version of Vivaldi?
-
Always up to date
-
@Oomek Have no idea how to solve it. It is working here in Windows and Linux.
Anybody else coming with an idea? -
Aw geeze...I was worried I was gonna find something like this. Brand-new Vivaldi user here and also having the same issue with both my mouse and Synaptics touchpad. I love Vivaldi but this kind of bug might be a deal breaker for me. Can't believe it's been 2 years without getting addressed.
