How block FoxNew ads
-
FoxNews.com seems to have blocked adblockers.
When I visit their site, a popup won't let me view the site w/o turning off the ad blocker, which I've done.
But I'm really hoping there's a way to block ads yet still get to the site. Somehow Edge manages to do it.

@kaprice09 , no such issue here. Which adblockers do you use?
You can also try with this app
Portmaster is an alround privacy, firewall and ad/tracking blocker for the whole system, not only the browser. OpenSource and free.

I'm only using the the one that comes with Vivaldi. I'll check out portmaster and then try to figure out how to turn Vivaldi's off. But, I'm heard V's was really good so I didn't think I needed a 3rd party one.
Are you just using the built in one?
Thanks much for the tip.

@catweazle
when I have Trackers turned of in V (no other adblock extensions)https://www.screencast.com/t/vIPNsJh6wNSG
I get this on the Fox site:
-
@kaprice09 The default blocklists are a bit too "careful" so as to not break any sites.
Make sure you enable at least:
- Tracker blocking: Easyprivacy
- Ad blocking: English (Peter Lowe's), Remove Cookie Warnings (both)
I didn't get any nags to disable the blocker with these lists enabled, but I did with the default lists. But things might be different for US users, hard to know.
Please also read to learn how to manage blocking lists yourself:
https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/privacy/tracking-and-ad-blocking/Also remember that the battle between ad-peddlers and blockerlists is ever ongoing, sites break, stuff changes, the sites monitor the lists and create workarounds, the lists have to make new rules etc etc ad infinitum.
So don't be surprised if the nags come back. If so make sure to update the lists by just deselecting and reselecting them, that way you have the latest version. And have patience, sometimes it might take a couple days or weeks for the lists to get the upper hand again.
This is not an exact science.

Thanks. That seems to be a good compromise.

@kaprice09 , because of this i use also the Portmaster, with this I can desactivate the blockers in Vivaldi and use only these from Portmaster with the basic protection settings A webpage don't detect it, because works at DNS level in the system.
Portmaster is similar to PiHole, but much better. -
That sounds awesome. Looks like it has a bit of a learning curve but it also looks like it will be worth it.
Thanks!

@kaprice09 , it's very easy to configure, even the default settings are good enough, that means, install and forget it. Itself gives you an advice if something got wrong, and what you have to do.
