Solved Bookmarking
-
I have been using Vivaldi for about a month now and I'm delighted with how fast it is. One bummer though. When I have a web page showing and I hit the Bookmark Page button at the top right, I can't find that bookmark in the Bookmarks list at the top left afterwards. I don't know if the button is not working or that it is going somewhere I don't know about.

@technophobe Hello! In Vivaldi there are many ways to manage bookmarks, not just from the Bookmarks Bar which is what I'm assuming you mean by "top left".
There is a dedicated Bookmarks Manager, the Bookmarks Panel, and the Bookmarks menu.
When you bookmark a page using the icon, it will end up in the last chosen folder. You can see this folder by simply clicking the bookmark icon again. By default it would save to the root bookmarks folder, which is also the location of the bookmarks bar, unless you've changed it.
You can set any folder as the Bookmarks Bar, just like you can add any folder as a Speed Dial.
I suggest you have a look at the Help Pages:
https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/bookmarks-speed-dial/bookmarks/
https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/bookmarks-speed-dial/bookmark-manager/Personally I hide the bookmarks bar, and I use the Bookmarks Menu or the Panel. If I want to organise bookmarks I use the Bookmarks Manager. If I want to add a bookmark, I open the relevant folder in the menu and select Add Active Tab, or I open the Panel and simply drag the address to the folder I want.

I thank you for your response and advice but I am no closer to a solution. I simply cannot find any bookmarks anywhere after I have clicked on the little symbol at the end of the address bar.
I imported a list of bookmarks from another browser and they are shown with one click of the little "folder" shape at the top left, immediately under the symbol for backing up to the previous page. Sorry, don't know what its called.
One of your links says something about clicking the bookmarks thing a second time but nothing different happens however many times I click it.
In my other browsers when I click to bookmark a new page it is automatically added to the main list, either at the top or the bottom. Then I drag it to a position or drop it into a folder as required. Vivaldi has me baffled in this respect. The only solution I have come up with is to use another browser to add a bookmark/export that list/and then import it to Vivaldi. Which leads to another problem. How to delete the original list that has been updated. -
It may well be that the main feature I was enjoying with Vivaldi (speed) is not worth the downside of not being able to find a newly bookmarked web page once I have set it. Maybe Safari next.

Hi, I guess you have many bookmarks now but cant find it.
If you hit the bookmark icon a dialogue open and the location of the bookmark is shown. Vivaldi remember the last place so if you don´t change anything all BM are at the same place now.If you hit Remove they are in Deleted, if you are cancel (Esc) the are saved anyway.
Cheers, mib

@technophobe You might have encountered a known bug in Vivaldi where the new bookmarks end up in the Trash folder. Check the Trash folder in the Bookmarks Panel or Bookmarks Manager, then clear the Trash.
As always, making a screenshot showing the problem or a video will help others understand what goes on in your system.
Vivaldi has very powerful bookmarking features, but as with anything else, they need to be learned to use them properly and understand what goes on when you see unexpected issues.

Thankyou both for your patience and advice. After lots of searching and clicks I finally located the missing (new) bookmarks and somehow managed to get them added to my main list of imported ones. Quite a hassle I must say. And during my search I tried to find a way of exporting bookmarks out of Vivaldi with no luck. Also couldn't find a Trash folder either. Posting a screenshot or video is well beyond my skillset. I'll be moving on, but thanks to Vivaldi forum's helpful members.

Exporting Bookmarks:

https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/bookmarks-speed-dial/bookmarks/#Importing_and_exporting_bookmarksThe "Trash" folder is actually called "Deleted" now, apologies. In Bookmarks Panel:
Posting a screenshot or video is well beyond my skillset.
Vivaldi has builtin functionality to make this easier:
https://help.vivaldi.com/tutorials/how-to-capture-full-page-screenshots-in-one-step/
https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/tools/capture-a-screenshot/Everything is possible to learn with a little searching and patience. This is the same in all software. Using a new tool needs to be learned, whether it's using a hammer for the first time or a new browser.
