Browser and Desktop Software Support (Multi-window)
-
It would be great if the browser could collapse to the side panel, allowing us to run desktop software alongside the bowser. I don't understand what you mean….
Could you please specify? -
If you open the page from the panel into a new tab (and close panel) You could just drag the edge of the Vivaldi Window to the size you want, then arrange your program windows as you want (e.g. Windows "Snap" function).
-
Indeed @TbGbe. The only difference being that the side panel uses mobile versions of the sites (very convenient), instead of the web versions used in tabs. Web versions, not being responsive, don't scale well when you snap the window.
And, also, the list of pages I would like to access is already sorted on my side panel.

Could you please specify?I'll try:
I have my Vivaldi panel to the right and, when I open one of the sites there, it sits neatly on the right, allowing me to browse the web while checking Facebook or watching a Youtube video for example. But, if I choose to use a desktop program, all of Vivaldi comes to the frontpage every time I click on the side panel.
My idea/suggestion/request is that there be an option to hide the tabs side of the browser so that, when I interact with the side panel, it doesn't cover the programs I am using.

@fernandobuzi Hadn't thought about mobile versions!
Not sure if closing/hiding the tab page to leave just the panel is on the list of feature requests yet (but an intriguing idea).
In the meantime, how about leaving Speeddial as the active tab? Then you could minimise/snap the browser to the width of panel and one speeddial tile?

Reading your comment got me to consider a probably simpler implementation: what if Vivaldi defaulted to the mobile version of the site whenever tab windows become too narrow?
As it is now, your idea works but most sites still open the normal web version . Good for this forum (because it's responsive), but not for Gmail or Facebook for example.
-
Yes, but in the (near) future, Vivaldi will have an email application to handle gmail etc.
As you say, for sites that don't have a mobile version, we're "stuck" with normal tab instead of panel (but then you can close the panel and resize the tab as much as possible)
No harm in adding your suggestion to list by putting it in the Bug Wizard
That is used for feature requests as well as reporting "confirmed bugs". -
