Mobile Antivirus That Protects Vivaldi
-
I hope this post doesn't violate any rules. I was hoping it might help fellow users of Vivaldi Mobile.
I use Bitdefender on my desktop computer. Unfortunately, Bitdefender does not support Vivaldi Mobile. Neither does ESET, Norton, Avira, Trend, GData, or many of the other reputable AV mobile platforms I've tried.
One major mobile antivirus that DOES protect Vivaldi is Sophos Intercept X. The app is free with no ads, full-featured, and lists my Vivaldi Browser in its recognized Network Security section. It consistently scores excellent ratings on AV Test and AV-Comparatives.
The browser protection seems to be a black/white-list that guards against various types of malicious websites. It has blocked several Trojans on websites I've visited unawares.
I have nothing at all to do with Sophos. I just hoped it might help Vivaldi users until more AV companies begin to recognize Vivaldi. I've seen several posts on the forum regarding AVs that work with Vivaldi Mobile.

Vivaldi is a new kind of browser that's based on the powerful Chromium engine. It's fast, simple to use and offers many innovative features without compromising on security, privacy or customization. So if you care deeply about your data, don't download a regular antivirus software but go for the mobile antivirus that protects Vivaldi.

Another mobile antivirus that integrates with Vivaldi is Avira. I think it's browser protection is only on the paid version, while Sophos is free with no ads.
Again, I have nothing to do with Sophos other than being thankful that they're one of the very few AV apps that work for Vivaldi.

@Kyuzo What does it mean, that the other mobile antiviruses don't work with Vivaldi?
-
For example, take Bitdefender. It's web protection works for Samsung internet, Brave, a couple of Opera browsers, Dolphin, Firefox, Edge, and a few others. If you use those browsers and visit a website featuring malware or known for phishing, Bitdefender will warn you. If you use Vivaldi, Bitdefender won't. Many of the other AV vendors also do not integrate with Vilvaldi or other browsers.
I've asked Bitdefender several times to add Vivaldi to their list, but got no reply. Avira and Sophos have warned me when I visit pages containing malware.
If you use safe browsing habits you might not even need an AV. I just like to have a little extra protection.

VIvaldi appears to have an extremely small marketshare in part because of a decision Vivaldi made several years ago to give up their unique User-Agent string since too many websites discriminate against users of a browser that is not one of the top 3 in global usage and either serve broken content or refuse to load at all.
Give this apparent tiny marketshare, it makes some sense why an AV vendor may not want to expend a bunch of resources supporting such a browser. Of course, in terms of the way such an AV tool works, Vivaldi shouldn't be much if any different than Chromium/Chrome. But they have to choose to support it.
Personally on Android I use Eset's AV product anyway. If a malicious app is downloaded or installed it will detect it with its file-based scanner. And it doesn't have to snoop on every single thing you do with the browser to do that. (Including MiTM'ing SSL transactions which basically destroys the security of encrypted web traffic)

I too have used ESET. I'm not promoting any particular antivirus as I use Bitdefender, Sophos, Avira, and F-Secure depending on the device I'm using. I plan on removing Bitdefender from one of my devices as soon as the subscription is over. If I must use a browser I do not like to use their product, I will look elsewhere.
I do agree that it's perhaps the market share that determines which browser will mesh with a particular antivirus.
I suppose I'm a romantic in thinking that an antivirus company (especially a European one, given EU consumer protections) would want to support a browser that protects personal privacy and that is secure.
The reason I originally posted was that I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered that Sophos meshed perfectly with Vivaldi on my phones and was absolutely free. Avira (at least the paid version) works with Vivaldi on my pad device because Sophos can not gain Accessibility privileges on an that administered device.
In the end, as long as a user doesn't tend to visit sites that are suspect, I suppose even no antivirus would be good enough.

I know this post is few months old at this point. But I'm here just to let people know you can use Avast (who based on my research does better then Sophos) for Vivaldi. I use Bitdefender as my primary mobile security, but I also use Avast and it seems to be working fine with Vivaldi.
I also sent Bitdefender an email questioning if Vivaldi is on their list of browsers to include in updates, but not so sure I'll actually get a reply from them.
Avast owns AVG, so if you prefer the AVG brand, it should work too. It scores very similarly to Avast in protection tests.

UPDATE: Got a reply from Bitdefender saying that Vivaldi is on their list to add to supported browsers in the future. However, they didn't offer a timeframe.

Hello, welcome here and have fun with the browser, the forum and maybe also in vivaldi.social.net. -
@ingolftopf thank you. I'm already on the social. It's a bit different then what I'm used to (Twitter and Facebook). Haven't figured out how to find people/groups yet to follow/join; if it's even possible. I've been exploring the forum for assistance/tips as I work my around the browser and learn all the features it has. Definitely making Vivaldi my primary browser. It's the best alternative I've found to date to the Chrome browser.
