I can not play amazon prime videos in HD
-
This seems to come up often. Latest macOS montery. Latest vivaldi everything. Amazon refuses zu play in HD. That is quite a show stopper. Any luck for others? I have no extensions activated and disabled ad tracking.
Interestingly that issue also exists in Edge and Firefox so it does not seem to be browser specific. It does work with Safari though.

@fabse
Interesting. I just tried playing it directly on the macbook without an external connected monitor, then it works. (and also in all other browsers). I do use 4k cables etc, maybe it is the caldigit hub in between which causes this issue. -
@fabse Hello and Welcome to the Vivaldi Community
My guess is this is related to HDCP.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-bandwidth_Digital_Content_ProtectionAmazon could detect if your display supports HDCP and if it doesn't, it falls back to SD. Safari probably has some kind of proprietary Apple-sauce that makes it work, no idea.
Not sure how you'd check if the display is HDCP-capable. For me (Windows 10) it shows in the NVidia control panel.
HDCP is meant to stop screen recordings of protected content. Doesn't seem to stop the pirates in any way whatsoever though. It does however make life more difficult for regular paying consumers, so that's another victory for the MPAA/RIAA I guess...

I tried a video in Vivaldi on Amazon and got 1080p
Also requires the video content to have a high quality version. (tho I am maxed out at macOS 11 here for the OS ) Vivaldi 5.0.2497.32
Not sure if Safari is getting a different video codec than Chromium browsers or what Firefox gets
Do you have hardware acceleration on?

Hi,
Happened something similar here few days ago but in Windows 7 and 1080 HD.
To Fix it (here),
Had to move back the V Window to the Laptop, disconnect the Tv's HDMI, connect it again, move the window to the second monitor and then start the streaming.Maybe was related to start it on the Laptop (1366) and move it to Tv while playing.
