Plex login - Remember server issue
-
I've recently been using Vivaldi to log into my personal Plex server. But I find an error. I state that I have two Plex servers connected to the same account. When I connect with Vivaldi, the browser asks me EVERY TIME to choose which server to connect to. Consequently it forces me to perform a setup. I can then log in. But as I exit the browser it is as if Vivaldi forgets the previously given settings and I have to repeat it all over again. This does not happen with Chrome and neither with Firefox. Any suggestions?

@miccio Hello and Welcome to the Vivaldi Community
I don't know how this Plex thing works, but are you deleting cookies/site data on browser close? Check your Settings > Privacy > Cookies.
-
I've already checked. Cookies are active for Plex. But nothing to do.
-
@miccio said in Plex login - Remember server issue:
Cookies are active for Plex.
Not sure what this means. Are you accepting cookies or have you set them to Session Only?
After a browser restart, do you still have cookies for Plex saved?
What is the URL to this server? Is it a local (LAN) address?
-
Yes. It's a local server (with web interface).
Plex is a free multimedia server you can install and configure to organize your music or moovies. My server runs on a little Raspeberry.
I use a dynamic DNS Service (dynu.com) to reach It even outside my lan; but the result is the same even if try with the local IP.
The cookies are enableb for all the sites, ever.
I've notice that: If I leave the tab open (and I close Vivaldi) the session works fine when I reopen It. BUT: If I close the tab It seems to "forgot" the server preferences next time I restart Vivaldi.
Plex works flawlessly with chrome, firefox, opera and edge.

@miccio I have no idea, you might have to wait for someone else with a Plex server to try.
I ask again:
After a browser restart, do you still have cookies for Plex saved? Check Settings > Privacy > Cookies before opening any Plex tab.You can also go through the troubleshooting steps, including disabling all extensions and testing in a clean profile:
https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/troubleshoot/troubleshooting-issues/ -
I searched for the cookies saved in: Settings > Privacy > Cookies. There are no cookies related to the service "myaddress.dynu.com" and not even to any LAN local address.
-
@miccio OK that could explain your issue. Something is deleting cookies from the Plex/
dynu.com
domain when browser is closed. Could be an extension or possibly some misconfigured "privacy cleaner" software on your system. If Settings > Privacy > Cookies are set to Accept=All, Vivaldi should keep cookies after restart.
Just to make sure also check:
chrome://settings/cookies
that it matches your Vivaldi setting.
And that "Clear cookies and site data when you close all windows" is turned off.
And no sites have been added to "Always clear cookies when windows are closed"Have you tried in a clean profile?`
-
Ok. I did all the tests.
I've disabled and unistalled all the extensions. No results. Then I've created a new profile.
In a clean profile It works! This thing is driving me crazy!
Maybe Is there a way to keep the profile I've created in the sync options and only reset all the settings keeping the favourites? or something similar ....
-
The problem seems solved. I've deleted the profile sync. I've reimported the favorites and manually set all my preferences again.
Plex seems to work. I still don't know why It did't work before.
Thanks you for your help even today.
Have a nice new Year and thanks again for your help! -
@miccio OK good
Did you check the
chrome://settings/cookies
page? There was a long time ago a bug when upgrading from a very old version where the cookie settings in the Vivaldi UI was inconsistent with the actual Chromium UI settings.
Other than that, maybe you were using a private window and did not realise it (theme changed maybe)?
https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/privacy/private-windows/ -
In fact, the only "strange" thing that comes to my mind concerns a theme that I had previously installed. But I didn't use any private windows. And anyway the problem was specific to my Plex server, the rest everything worked perfectly. And then, now, I've basically manually replicated all the settings I had before and Plex works. Mystery!
And thanks again for your help. Vivaldi is great software.
P.S.O.T. I was asking in the "donations" section if it was possible to make a donation via Paypal and not directly by credit card. Do you know the Paypal address to which to make the donations? (I am looking for a way to help Vivaldi development) I'm using Linux Debian 11 (Gnome 3.38)Thank you and Happy 2022
