cannot install v 5 'cannot satisfy dependencies'
-
Hi, after what seems like a lifetime of Windows (only really 30 years), I am trying out Kubuntu 21.10 with Plasma 5.22.5.
This morning V announced new version 5 and my machine installed, but with 'Error:cannot satisfy dependencies'. The programme worked, and 'about' said it was V 5, but it had all sorts of problems, not least although set for ad block and no trace, adds were everywhere, it was also very slow. Finally, I decided to uninstall and start again, but a new download still gave me the same error, and as a new installation, V was not installed and available. I therefore downloaded the previous version, _amd64.deb, but this now comes up with the same 'error message, and the details tab on the error screen only tells me about the Vivaldi version, it gives no clue as to the missing or problem dependency.
Can anyone suggest a solution, or am I destined for life on the old fashioned Firefox? -

Which error message was this completely?
Try this in shell:
wget https://downloads.vivaldi.com/stable/vivaldi-stable_5.0.2497.24-1_amd64.deb sudo dpkg -i vivaldi-stable_5.0.2497.24-1_amd64.deb

DoctorG, thanks for that rapid response. The error message was as I told it, just a line on the pop up saying 'Error: Cannot satisfy dependencies'.
Your code lines got the app installed and running, but again ridiculously slow, and adverts on both outlook.com and speedtest by ookla. By the way, I have 4g through a Teltonika router, and speeds of (just now) 9Mbps down and 19Mbps up (normally in the high 20's both ways. This is ookla
and this is the settings page
Where might I go from here?

@keithmason Please test Okla in Guest Window.
I get 58/11 on my 60MBps VDSL line with Vivaldi 5.0.2497.24 at OOkla (over Hetzner server).I do not know what wrong with your Mobile 4G connection.

Hi, thanks again. What is wrong with my 4g is that we live deep in the country and are lucky to get the 24.3/19.9 showing now. But that wasn't the problem I was asking about, as those speeds have been the same for the years we have lived here, with never any problem using Vivaldi.
I am more concerned that V has a blocker which isn't working, and is working at about one quarter the speed of Firefox on the same installation of Kubuntu and the same connection.
I really love V and it seems to be getting more popular with Linux users, so I hope there is a solution out there? -
Good Morning, after my last message, I and my computer took a rest, and that means I slept, but my computer was switched off.
This morning, I feel refreshed, and miraculously, the problems with V5 seem to have cured themselves! This morning, the ad blocker is doing its job, and the programme has returned to the speeds I am used to.
I will never know either what was wrong, or what happened to fix the problem, but as someone once said, never look a gift horse in the mouth.
So thanks for your help.
