What are hyphen-data files?

My Surface Book has an occasional weird problem where a random string of faded-center white dots appear across the screen about 1/3 down from the top, with a cursor image stuck on one of them. That cursor rapidly flashes alternatively with the real cursor if I move the mouse. Touch is usually dead, and the mouse can't trigger most actions. In this image the red Windows close X was flashing along with that cursors:

I'm grasping at straws here... I just searched for files created at the moment of the failure, and this is what I found:

Whatever is this "hyphen-data"? What would trigger Vivaldi to save 39 files exactly when my strange problem began? Coincidence???

There is no system log I can find related to this dot problem, and no way to escape except restart. Guess my machine is just haunted?

@doctorg @iAN-CooG Yes, it is obvious they are some kind of hyphenation data. But why were they written right then? I was not updating Vivaldi, or as far as I know, doing anything new with it. They have not changed since that incident. I imagine they hardly ever change.

Except for a few files and folders with today's date, most everything in that folder is months or years old. There is one file from the reboot after the weird problem - bit of binary data and a lot of empty space:
CrashpadMetrics.pma~RF2fb0b2c.TMP

Does that mean Vivaldi thinks its last run crashed?

Yes, I'm grasping at straws - does any of this provide clues?
