Scripting the old YouTube design into a new one to bring Dislike count back
-
Hi, I hope this is the best place to post this!
As you might've heard, YouTube recently decided to scrap yet another community feature - dislike count. Dislike count is as of today invisible to all signed-in users, as seen below:
I've noticed when signed out, YouTube displays with an older design that still shows dislike count (which I hope stays that way). This is also likely to be a leftover from localizations which might be different between regions:
I had an attempt at bringing over this old design to the signed-in version, by fiddling with HTML (aka copy-pasting sections of code) to no success. I'm far from CSS-savvy to userscript this (for Tampermonkey / Greasemonkey) - I'm wondering if there's interest and someone better knowledgeable, and whether this could be done. Hopefully dislikes can be saved in one form or another.

@vipzer I still see the dislike count on YouTube videos.
Are you using an extension?
-
@pesala haven't heard the news? They're officially removing it. No, I'm not using an extension, dislike count has been hidden as of today. Upper screenshot is how the signed-in design looks like, bottom is signed-out version which lacks behind.
Edit: I noticed the old design also appears on a newer alt-account of mine. Changing location and language is what I tried first on the main account (already affected by this change).
-
@vipzer Yeah, I suspect the signed out version will lose it soon enough. I know that not everyone has it right away, which is why your alt might not have it.
-
Would that change apply to old videos, or just the newest ones? I am still seeing the thumbs-up and thumbs-down counts.
-
@streptococcus I'm pretty sure it's rolling out to individual accounts, so you won't see changes on any video until you see it on all videos.

"Dislike Attacks", oh such a fragile ego...
When u do propaganda, lies, & fake news in public platform, of course u will get downvoted to oblivion by the masses. But now with the meaningless Dislike system in place, we will stumble into more scam & propaganda in YT, because big tech don't want us to make informed decision base on collective intelligence, instead we should just consume & agreed on everything in YT.
IMHO YT should just remove both like/dislike & comment system, then all Youtuber will have less hoops to jump through, & no need to ask for LIKES like beggar in every video. Why not just turn YT into another radio/TV/netflix, void of any meaningful user engagement & diverse opinion from the audience? Who knows, it might turn out to be a better experience for everyone! LOL

strange...I can still see dislikes on my end.

There, someone made extension / js script to restore it, albeit it's not perfectly accurate:
