Downloading problems

Recently downloading with Vivaldi has become unreliable and unpredictable. The annoying Google "Keep/Discard" popup is bad enough but now it doesn't always appear at all, leaving downloads of files either unstarted or in limbo, never finishing. Why is this? Chrome displays the popup and deals with it properly, despite being an extreme annoyance that can't be turned off. But with Vivaldi, even if I right-click a link and "Save link" the download doesn't finish unless I try to exit the browser, when I am prompted to cancel the download or continue downloading. If I choose to continue, I am then taken to a screen where I can choose to keep or discard the download, but why? Something is broken.

Hi, can you add the Vivaldi and OS version and a link to such a file, please?
Check chrome://downloads if some downloads still mark as "Keep".

I can confirm this issue if Vivaldi minimised or download opened in backgroudn tab.

Vivaldi 4.3.2439.65 (Stable channel) (64-bit)
OS Windows 10 Version 21H1 (Build 19043.1348)

There are loads of files such as either of these:

Sometimes I will download the 32 bit version of a file which starts automatically, then try to download the 64 bit version and nothing happens.

With the above link for Stinger, the left panel opens to show a download is starting, but then nothing else happens. As I said, something isn't working properly.

@richardlconway Some websites have mixed content! Website is loaded with SSL and download without. That is forbidden by Chromium core as a security feature since more than 1 year.

"Save link as " should work with Vivaldi 4.4 Snapshot and shwo a warning in download panel.

But the problem here is that the side panel opens as if the download is starting, then nothing happens and there is no information as to why. With Chrome I do get a dialog. Silent failures are very user-hostile in my opinion.
Vivaldi used to warn with a dialog or pop-up, but for the past couple of months, I get nothing to tell me anything is wrong.

This is compounded by the fact that the core Google stupidity is inconsistent, with some downloads triggering a Keep/Discard box and others from the same server either failing silently or downloading without a warning. Why can't a download link just, er, download the file?

I have installed v4.4 snapshot and it is worse. Clicking on the link to download Stinger32.exe now does nothing. No indication of anything at all. How is that better?

Actually it is worse than I first thought.
I click on the download link. Nothing happens.
I right-click on download link and select Save Link As.
I am prompted for where to save the file. But it never finishes downloading.
The download panel has not opened. I open it manually and there is nothing showing.
I scroll the panel up, and right at the bottom is the prompt for Keep/Discard.

Is this now a Download Game where we have to guess what to do next and where it will appear?

My solution: Shift+Click on such links and "Save As" works. Downlaod starts end ends correctly.

@richardlconway I can understand that you are disappointed, but i can not fix your feelings about Vivaldi download managment.

Excellent, Shift-Click on the link works. Yet just click and it fails. Why the need for Shift as well?

Call me old fashioned but when I click a download link, I expect the file to download. Anything else is bad design.

@richardlconway Do not ask me why you need to act like this, i am not a Vivaldi developer and not offical Vivaldi support. I help in my spare time as volunteer.

@doctorg I was having this issue regarding not able downloads sometime. Using the workaround here solved
it. I wonder if this will be fixed ?

I have a same problem. I can not save anything with vivaldi. even the right click save as doesn't work.
I can't download A single picture either. there is appear the choose the save location on my computer and hit Ok but after that 0kb download or if I want to download a bigger file maybe it start and stop around 20%.
This problem is constant and repeatedly.
I use win10 64bit latest update and the vivaldi latest stable version. every driver also the latest.
Please fix this problem or give me advice where can I find the solution for it.
