A final return of the back-forward navigation cache!!!
-
One of the most wonderful features of the venerable Presto renderer was the instant back/forward cache, it made a substantial impact on the usability of navigation. It sadly got lost for years by Chromium.
The great news is that it is apparently back with Chrome 96:

I'm really looking forward to this making it into Vivaldi. Does anyone know how it works on Android, which apparently was released first?

If it works, this will bring so much Quality of Life on sites using forms. Apparently you just need to wait for 15 years in order for some features to make it into chromium.
They specifically state
for Desktop
, so I somehow doubt that it will be included in mobile chromium and thus also vivaldi for android?! -
Browser engines are substantially more complex as they morph into the platform for everything — that core features that are hugely useful for actual browsing[1] get lost in this complexity. Hence XX years for returning a previously common feature. Another one is saving a visible PDF, crazily you can't do it without requesting the file a second time, a bug almost 10 years without any solution: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=158957
[1] like history navigation, you know, the thing the very name "browser" infers

The current build of Vivaldi (based on Chrome 96 https://chromestatus.com/feature/6279906713403392) should include bfcache, but at least the demo outline here:

...navigating example.com <-> cnn.com <-> theverge.com is not demonstrating that bfcache is enabled. Does anyone have an idea why this is not enabled yet? Using developer tools > application > bfcache and status is always shown as unknown...
