Solved YouTube's Keyboard shortcuts not working in full screen mode

When watching Youtube video in full-screen, I can't use keyboard shortcut anymore like press "F" for to turn off full-screen mode, or navigate using left and right button.

Sorry for my bad english because english isn't my native language.

@pafflick When I tried in new guest window, Youtube shortcut works! And I dig something in the settings. Apperently, Youtube shortcut doesn't work if I use "Show as a Button" for the "Search Field Display".

When I change back to "Show in Address Bar", the Youtube shortcut work again. I hope Vivaldi Team can fix this issue.

Go to Settings, Keyboard, Mail, and disable the single-key shortcuts like "F" which is assigned to "Forward" by default.

@achmedislamic, I had the same problem. If @Pesala's suggestion does not work, I had to reinstall V. I then imported bookmarks to the new version. I didn't try other import options.

@pesala I currently disabled mail function on my vivaldi. And I enable it again just to clear "F" shortcut for mail and it still doesn't work. Not just "F" shortcut that doesn't work, but all keyboard shortcut for youtube.

From my perspective, it seems when youtube is on full screen, the window is not on the 'front', so I must click the video and the keyboard shortcut is working again.

@boomer1 Uninstalling Vivaldi right now is not the best choice for me. Because I really like using keyboard shortcut and when I uninstall Vivaldi, I will lost all my custom keyboard shortcut.

I hope Vivaldi can sync keyboard shortcut

@achmedislamic The YouTube shortcuts work fine for me.

F, Spacebar, Left/Right, Home/End.

Perhaps it si a YouTube setting that has changed?

@pesala it was worked if I watch youtube in normal view, but when using full screen mode, all the keyboard shortcut can't be used.

I have other computer as well, but all of them have a same problem.

about Youtube setting, I don't know much about it. as far as I know, there's nothing like youtube keyboard shortcut settings. And if I use other browser, the keyboard shortcut is working.

@achmedislamic Log-in to YouTube, click your avatar at top right. At the bottom of the menu is a link to the shortcuts.

@achmedislamic Not all issues a user has with Vivaldi is a bug.

Such "BUG: ...." titles of threads are really misleading and mostly incorrect.

@pesala yes, I got that. but, it's only for viewing the keyboard shortcut. I can't change the settings.

But, have you encounter my problem in your end? I already disabled all of my extensions and the problem is still exist.

Yes, if i hit F11 before then the F fails in youtube videos.

Please read Help us to reproduce the issue carefully and then report bug to Vivaldi tracker.

@achmedislamic I've tried it recently and it works fine both in Vivaldi's full screen (after pressing [F11]) and when using YouTube's video full screen (after pressing [F]). All keyboard shortcuts seem to work fine.

Could you test this in a guest profile? For reference, see: Troubleshooting issues.

Confirmed here too. It is a focus issue. F11 does not focus the video, so it is not a bug.

I can confirm the bug if "Show as a Button" is selected, tested in a clean profile of Vivaldi 4.3 Stable on Windows 10.

My guess is a keyboard input issue, seems the focus is not on the video as it should be after going fullscreen. If the video is clicked, focus is returned to the video and keys work again. Not just YouTube, fullscreen video on other sites had the same problem.

Looks like a regression starting from 4.2 Stable.

Make sure you don't have the extension Improve YouTube enabled. I use it and have been for several years, but lately, it's disabling the YouTube shortcuts. It also disables the functions I used in another great extension called Variable Speed Controller.

You can test this by either disabling a few extensions, or opening a new incognito window, which disables extensions by default. If your shortcuts work after this, you can begin disabling each extension one-by-one to find the culprit. You'll likely need to reload your YouTube page each time you make a change to see if it worked.
