Requesting help re: Vivaldi's built-in adblocking ...
-
Hello. I tried using Vivaldi's built-in adblocker again. Websites like CNN or Hulu or TubiTV still picked up on the adblocker, and threw anti-adblock messages my way. I disabled the adblocker, and downloaded/installed UBlock Origin. Ticked a couple of "annoyances" filters, and I didn't have anymore anti-adblock messages. My question is, how do I configure Vivaldi's built-in adblocker to make it so that anti-adblock messages don't come up? By itself (and when it works), the native adblock works fine. But it's still detected by a number of sites when UBlock Origin isn't. I would like to keep things as "VANILLA" as possible without relying on extensions. Thanks.

@omnimaxus
Hi, not for me at cnn.com with default settings on latest stable.
On my daily workhorse, the Vivaldi snapshot, I have the cookie blocker lists and Easy Privacy tracker list enabled but make no difference for CNN.
I cant test Hulu and TubiTV, you need an account, the homepages shows no blocker warnings for me.
May you can test https://www.spiegel.de, Vivaldi blocks 28 tracker and 16 ads also without warnings.Cheers, mib
EDIT: I forgot, I use I don´t care about cookies extension on the snapshot version.
This kill the anti blocking messages at Spiegel.de, not the inbuild lists. -

Try to add this list:
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/bogachenko/fuckfuckadblock/master/fuckfuckadblock.txt
(sorry for the name, but is called that way)
The don't care about cookies is usually aimed to European Users but it could be useful to bypass the consent screen:

@mib2berlin - thank you for replying.
@Hadden89 - thank you, too, for replying.
I tried the F*** F*** Adblock filter. It did work for TubiTV, but not for CNN or NBC News.
I also tried the Anti-Adblock Killer filter. It blocked images from loading in Vivaldi. Got rid of it.
The solution, it seems, is to add effective filters if I am to use Vivaldi's built-in adblocker.
What anti-adblock filters absolutely work like a charm? Anyone? Thank you!
(Also, if any of the "annoyance" filters out there work like anti-adblock filters, let me know.)

The solution:
Use uBO and forget the problem. It will not harm your "Vainilla" ideal. (Of course disable the built-in adblocker)

Try with this:

Awkard. I've it too and no issue so far. The link of the one I use:

Hard question. Almost any list both for trackers and ads - have a small risk of breakages. But usually with more popular ones this doesn't happen.
(Also, if any of the "annoyance" filters out there work like anti-adblock filters, let me know.)

Few lists works better with additional unbreak filters. So would be useful to know which are you currently using.

Trying to navigate the ins and outs of the lists is pretty tricky. There's not a lot of good practical info available and it seems there are literally thousands to choose from. The nice thing about Vivaldi ad-blocking like Vivaldi itself is how customizable it is. My choice for filters at present are:
Fanboy Ultimate List (Includes Easylist, EasyPrivacy, Enhanced Trackers list and Annoyances list): https://www.fanboy.co.nz/r/fanboy-ultimate.txt
Adblock warning removal list: https://easylist-downloads.adblockplus.org/antiadblockfilters.txt
ABP anti-circumvention list: Already shown on the list of available ad blocking sources in Vivaldi.
Uncheck everything else after installing these three.
If anyone else has better suggestions (besides install uBlock Origin) please post.

@oigg These are my picks:
Trackers
- None currently (easyprivacy would be a good choice)
Ads
- ABP anti-circumvention list
- Vivaldi whitelist for partners
- Easylist
- AAKlist (anti ad-blocker)
- Adguard annoyances
- ABP Anti-adblock
- FukFukAdblock
- Pete Lowe's (better use this with unbreak filters)
- Nano Filters
- I don't care cookie list (rarely you may need to whitelist)
- Brave unbreak
- Ublock filters (badware, privacy, resource abuse, unbreak)

As matter of preference I prefer smaller lists as it is easier to isolate the one which is quite aggressive or show major site breakages.

Thanks to everyone who has commented thus far. I did try out the filters @oigg suggested, but I still got anti-adblock messages on a handful of sites (this does not happen at all with UBlock Origin). I have gone back to UBlock Origin for now, and I sincerely hope Vivaldi makes improvements to their adblocker, especially since they promote it as a big feature of Vivaldi's. Seems pointless to have an adblocker if websites are going to block users with an anti-adblock message. This doesn't happen with UBlock Origin. If UBlock Origin can do it, so can Vivaldi's adblocker. Make it happen, Vivaldi!

@omnimaxus The fact is the vivaldi blocker is aimed to have a basic-intermediate protection against ads whereas ubo always been for advanced users. About the missing block, hard to know why the ad is not blocked without having an exact url of the page or if the cause is a mis-working rule. This will help users to help you to investigate and even devs if you did a bug report bug but... as rules are from 3rd parties they could get less priority. So... using ubo is a valid choice in such scenario.
-
@omnimaxus sorry you get the anti-adblock messages. My choices work perfectly for me but if I were still getting unwanted messages I would try adding in one by one some of the extra anti ad-blocker lists @Hadden89 suggested. If you are tired of experimenting and just want to browse uBlock Origin is of course a great choice.
