Preload complete Video
-
Hi,
I am on a pretty slow internet connection in the countryside. So, I like to load videos, while I cook for example and then watch them in full and without interruptions, when food is done.
This works great with Firefox Developer Edition. However, Vivaldi would only preload like a couple of minutes and then stops until I actually play the video.
Is there any way to get the browser to preload the entire video? It is the only reason, I am still sticking to Firefox for video playback.
Any help would be appreciated.

@bbuske I guess that you already reduce the quality to speed up downloading. 480 or 720 is adequate IMO unless you want to watch a nature program on a high definition monitor.
Have you tried playing the video on mute while you go to do your cooking, then rewinding it when you're ready to watch it?

@pesala Thanks for the reply. Muting the video is a good idea. But some sites unfortunately, when you rewind, start to buffer again from that point. Especially if you rewind a larger portion.
It is really just an easy feature that Firefox has, and it is really handy for people with a slower connection. So, I was wondering if Vivaldi has something like that. It is really the only thing, that keeps me from getting rid of FF.
As you guesses correctly, I have already changed my video quality settings. Usually to 720 which works nice, unless it's a video, where you have to read text on screen or see details, as you mentioned. But that is only of limited help.

@bbuske How exactly do you make Firefox buffer the whole video? FF 90 on my system behaves exactly like Vivaldi.
You'd probably need to get an extension for this though, there is no option for this in Vivaldi far as I can see.

I don't know from where you need to watch these videos, but the easier solution is to download the videos with Jdownloader2 and watch them offline. It's exactly what you are asking but not involving the browser.

I use Firefox Developer Edition and I just go on a site for movies. No matter if it is Netflix, YouTube or something else. I run the video and hit pause and when I come back later, it's loaded.
Always thought it was common behavior. I did not add or change anything in Firefox. I only noticed eventually that Vivaldi does not do the same.
Would you know if there is any extension that can do that? Are you using any?

@bbuske No, I don't need anything particular anymore to watch streams since when I have 20mbit ADSL so I can watch 1080p HD videos live without anymore problems, but I know the struggle having had for years only 7mbit (and way less before that)
All I can suggest, again, is to actually download the videos with Jdownloader2 instead of relying on any browser. -
