Metamask popup not working

I'm using metamask extension and instead of opening a popup when needs user's confirmation (as in Google Chrome), it shows a blue number over the extension's icon. I have to click it for the popup to show up.
What can I do to make the popup appear automatically when a site asks for user's interaction?

I have the same problem except in my case I get the behavior you have and I get a separate metamask minimal window that pops up. Very annoying!
