Checking around I see I am not the only one with this problem.
When connecting to a bookmark or typing in a URL, I get this error (this site can't be reached). Then wait a few seconds (sometimes) and it will connect. This seems to have happened after the last Vivaldi update....I think.
Testing this out, using the same bookmark later works fine. But using a different bookmark will again the same error.
If I try the same URL in Chrome or Edge it works fine.
I really don't want to use Chrome or Edge and since other people are experiencing the same thing it would be good if tech support would get their arms around this issue.
Are there any fixes for this yet?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!! -

That's not easy to get an answer for unless you tell us the site
Please try the troubleshooting steps first:

Is there any progress to report? I dont want to start yet another thread on this, so it would be good if someone from Vivaldi could post a response. I agree totally with your symptoms - connecting to a site from the fast dial page will produce an error "this site cannot be reached". Then after a very short time ( 1 or 2 seconds ) the connection is made, and is good, Clicking on the same tile later on has no delay, and instant connection.
Like you, I am fairly sure that this problem started after an update. Cant prove that, of course, but it came from nowhere. I've got a new PC, and a fast internet connection, so I don't believe that it is a hardware problem. It has to be something inside Vivaldi itself as far as I can tell. -
@pathduck Happens here too, on every site I access via the speed dial. It briefly reports that the site can't be reached and then goes there anyway.

@4s34s0ns
Hi, a forum post is not a bug report, if nobody report it to the bug tracker it will never been fixed.
By the way, I cant verify this on Windows, Linux on 3 different systems.
Please check with a new profile. You can open help pages with F1.Cheers, mib

It's a known bug, been there for a long while. It happens only when "Startup with" is set to "Homepage", and only on the first click on a bookmark/dial.
I really wish they'd fix this, it keeps coming up again and again and again and again...

I have the same problem but I get it even without typing/using bookmark... it's quite the bad experience...

@smastermega Cause could be:
- restrictions by ISP
- restrictions by router settings
- Typo in URL/Domain
- Block by IP/Country
- Unreachable website
- Broken Windows network settings
- Extra DNS settings in internal Vivaldi settings
- Use of VPN/Proxy
- Running security tools
Does that happen with every URL? Tell us which one.

These can't be with any other browser everything work perfectly - Extra DNS settings in internal Vivaldi settings
I do not know where I should look to check this (I doubt thought) - Use of VPN/Proxy
I don't use any - Running security tools
I have windows defender but vivaldi is free in the firewall

@smastermega That is not a problem of Vivaldi, the webserver of mangadex blocks your connection with Vivaldi.
What is shown if you click on Details on Vivaldi error page?
Tyr to restart your router to get a new IP.Let us check IP of you
mangadex.org
:- Open Windows command line
- Type
nslookup mangadex.org
- Hit return key
Which IP is shown? (copy & paste with </> in forum)
I get:T:\>nslookup mangadex.org Server: fritz.box Address: ****** Nicht autorisierende Antwort: Name: mangadex.org Address: 205.220.231.1
tell me network settings (copy & paste with </> in forum(:
ipconfig /all
Seems the domain has some routing trouble (step #6 has no answer):
T:\>tracert mangadex.org Routenverfolgung zu mangadex.org [205.220.231.1] über maximal 30 Hops: 1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms fritz.box [192.168.***.***] 2 15 ms 12 ms 8 ms ******.dip0.t-ipconnect.de [62.*********] 3 15 ms 15 ms 13 ms pd900cb02.dip0.t-ipconnect.de [217.0.203.2] 4 18 ms 25 ms 31 ms 80.157.204.62 5 24 ms 24 ms 24 ms ae11.cr6-ams1.ip4.gtt.net [213.200.117.178] 6 * * * Zeitüberschreitung der Anforderung. 7 26 ms 26 ms 26 ms 205.220.231.1 Ablaufverfolgung beendet.

I'm going to restart the router
Router restarted nothing changed
-
@smastermega the nslookup for the domain proves something on your Windows causes that Mangadex is resolved to 127.0.0.1.
Coudl be caused could be Parental control in Windows or router, ISP Domain filter, Windows hosts block list, external adfilter.Such is never caused by of Vivaldi browser.

-
@smastermega Send me by chat until next hour.

I fixed my problem , it was caused by dns problems, if you experienced teh same but changint it in windows did not take you anywhere like me do this in vivaldi
https://imgur.com/TFwM7DVEnable secure dns and se a different one from your service provider

Enable secure dns and se a different one from your service provider
If you had enabled in internal Vivaldi settings Secure DNS and used Secure DNS from your ISP, some of your connections were filtered by a bad ISP.
-
@smastermega Congrats, you found a workaround to fix your issue
