AdBlock Plus installs itself
-
During the last year or two, AdBlock Plus has installed itself into Vivaldi five times without asking me first. It just did it again, about ten minutes ago.
Is there any way to make it stop?
Thanks.

@eggdog Settings, Sync, and disable Extensions should do it.
Or open the other computer that you're syncing with, and remove the Adblock extension from that.
-
@pesala To be fair, removing it from one synced computer should remove it from the other as well, not leave it on the other and keep trying to reinstall it repeatedly.
-
@komposten That is not the way that Sync is designed.
-
@pesala So you're saying that you can never delete anything that is synced, because sync will always restore it? Sounds kinda stupid and like a highly unlikely design decision.
If I delete a bookmark on my home PC, that bookmark should also be deleted from my work PC the next time I use it.
If I delete a note on my home PC, that note should also be deleted from my work PC the next time I use it.
If I delete a password on my home PC, that password should also be deleted from my work PC the next time I use it.
If I delete an extension from my home PC, that extension should also be deleted from my work PC the next time I use it.And as far as I know, that's exactly how Vivaldi's sync normally works.

@komposten Maybe you want to use some bookmarks or extensions at home that are not allowed/suitable for work? How do you deal with that scenario.
-
@pesala if you want different extensions at work /home, don't sync extensions, because those can apparently not be in sync. "in sync" = "same". (edited for clarity)
The (fantastic Foss) serverless sync software syncthing (syncthing.net) has several options for these things. Either you specify something to be in sync on all devices, in which case any change anywhere is distributed to all other synced devices (and keeping previous versions prevents havoc), or you can define a "send only folder" of files on one device with "receive only" folders on the others.

You don't, not unless Vivaldi adds a 'don't sync this particular extension/bookmark' function. Vivaldi's sync is currently designed to keep all connected devices fully synchronised.
