Problem with Twitch, Autotrader, Banking site
-
I've had a problem using my bank's website; although I can log in and select an account, the view of my account details and transactions will not display. I'm used to security updates at my bank breaking some browser functionality, but this only seems to affect Vivaldi - I can use the site in Edge and in Firefox.
Today, I tried to use the Autotrader.co.uk site, which has been working fine up till today. When I click to review a car's details, the page tries to load, but it dumps me back at the list of vehicles for sale, saying that the chosen advert is no longer available. Again, Edge, Firefox on PC and Safari on iPadOS work fine.
Similar story with Twitch - today I get the infamous Error 2000 on Vivaldi, but other browsers work fine.
Needless to say, I have tried after disabling all my extensions, using Private mode, with and without VPN and with and without PiHole enabled, but to no avail.
Sorry to say this is a dealbreaking issue for me, despite investing significant time and effort to customise Vivaldi to my preferences I'll have to drop Vivaldi for a less broken browser.

I tried to see the details on 3 different cars and they all loaded fine to me...

Did you try Guest View ? Disabling extensions may not be enough, some can actually need to be removed (and browser restarted) before they no longer influence browsing.
-
I'm having the same issue, Twitch error #2000 and same behaviour on Autotrader, but only on Vivaldi.
Weirdly enough, Guest View does fix it, but disabling all extensions, wiping cache, clearing all cookies associated with the affected websites and restarting doesn't.

Err

Well, I just removed all my extensions and restarted Vivaldi, only for the issue to persist, so it's obviously not an extension issue.
-
On another topic just had a problem with a website that seems to be related to the add blocker. Do you have it enabled? Have you tried disabling it? (The Guest profile, like any new profile, has add blocker disabled by default)
-
Thank you all for your suggestions. I can confirm that in Guest view the problems are not present (at least with Twitch and Autotrader, I'm not going to provoke my bank's security measures just for a browser test!).
I updated Vivaldi from 3.7 to 4.0, to no effect. I also disabled Vivaldi's built-in ad-blocker (Settings->Privacy->Do Not Track->Block Ads on Abusive Sites) but this also had no effect, nor did turning off Phishing and Malware Protection. I'll try removing all my extensions and restarting, if I can remember how to preserve their settings should I need to transfer them to another browser.
This may be an issue related to Windows 10 recent updates, but the fact that Guest mode works OK makes me curious whether this suggests another cause/line of investigation.
-
OK, removed all my extensions, restarted the PC, and the problem is still present. Also tried turning off various firewall and internet security settings in Kaspersky, again without positive result (though if sites work in Guest Mode, it's unlikely to be 3rd party security issue).
-
got the same error 2000 on twitch and various website can't connect anymore also show some kind of error its very problematic right now im thinking about changing browser

@sixoxkemon
Hi, I test the pages you mention again and all work for me, Twitch and Autotrader.
The only difference I can see, I don´t use a thrird party security software.
I have no idea why it work in guest profile but maybe because of the limited funktions of Guest.
As those issues often start after an Windows or Vivaldi update there is no way round disable Kaspersky or even remove it for a test.
Most problems was reported for Avast amd another I cant remember. They produce really strange interactions with Vivaldi nobody can think of.Cheers, mib

FIXED (for now?) - Figuring that it was likely to be related to some sort of privacy setting, I noted that Vivaldi enables you to toggle tracking on and off. I created a keyboard shortcut to do this (Settings->Keyboard->Keyboard Shortcuts->Block/Unblock Tracking). I loaded site Autotrader.co.uk and established that it was still not working. I pressed the shortcut keys, the page reloaded, and I was able to see details of the selected vehicle. I noted that even after I pressed the shortcut key again (implicitly reversing back to the initial problem state) the site continued to function as intended. I did the same with Twitch and it is now also working.
Unfortunately my online banking site is still not working with Vivaldi, and I suspect this is due to changes made at the server, so I'll see what the bank has to say.
Hope this works for other users who had experienced this problem, and that the devs can locate the cause of this aberrant behaviour before it propagates to other sites.

@rexluscus Go to Settings > Privacy > Tracker and Ad blocking > Manage Sources, then disable and reenabled EasyList to update it and it should work again.
-
Thanks Pathduck, though I use DuckDuckGo Tracker Radar rather than EasyPrivacy, but it's worth noting if the issue recurs.
Just to add that, although people are generally helpful, the 'couldn't replicate your issue' comment does not contribute to finding a solution (especially from Linux users on Snapshot branch responding to a Windows thread for stable release). At least the 'Me Too' responses confirm that I'm not the only user experiencing this issue :}.

Knowing that several people do not experience the same problem that was reported leads to focus on a configuration issue rather than a website issue. Until that information is shared, everyone will end up making the same tests to try and replicate the problem...
I think it contributes far more to finding a solution than saying things like

without even waiting for other people's feedback first...

Sorry, that might be true of certain categories of problem, but not this one. I approached this on the basis that, if this problem affected everyone (or even a significant minority), it would have received earlier and much wider attention i.e. it is implicit that this is likely to be an issue that only affects a small subset of users (possibly a subset of one!).
I was clear that I had tried various diagnostic processes to identify potential causes, and the fact that the sites function in other browsers (including other Chromium based browsers) was sufficient to narrow the issue to being with Vivaldi. It always amazes me that such complex and variable systems like PCs continue to function in the way they were intended (until they don't), and it's interesting (not to say frustrating) to find out why things stop working and to fix them.
Your initial response to my post was (in total):
I tried to see the details on 3 different cars and they all loaded fine to me...
Contrast this with the next response which, while confirming they didn't experience the issue, also proposed a workaround/technique which eventually helped me to work towards a solution.

I'm sure you can understand that, having supported Vivaldi for almost 5 years both financially and by promoting it in the community, it's disheartening when a problem apparently with the app's basic functionality prevents its use - and I'm not even the only commenter in this thread to have said that this problem is so important that I'd have to move to another (less configurable) browser. So hopefully you can forgive a minor vent, but I don't blame you for picking me up on it.
Have a great weekend, and keep on keeping on!

I started experiencing this myself last night (on Twitch and YouTube Studio specifically), Pathduck's suggestion to manually update the ad blocker sources worked for me.
-
I've been suffering the same inability to sign into some sites using Vivaldi 4.0.23. including Outlook. Strangely I was able to sign in to those sites using "Web Apps" which is pre-loaded in Linux Mint 20 and which opens (in my case) as a separate Vivaldi window. I could also sign in to them in Firefox. So the problem was not associated with the sites themselves. Thanks to some of the above suggestions I have turned off ad blocking for those sites and they now act as they should. I guess that's an unfortunate price I must pay until a fix comes along.

@rexluscus
Just to note that I'm still unable to use Vivaldi to access my bank account details on the web in both Linux and Windows versions, whereas Firefox and Edge (Windows 10 only, obvs) and iPadOS browsers work OK. Latest bizarre issue is that while Twitch in Vivaldi works in general, I can't see the volume slider. Again, other browsers don't have this issue. -
@rexluscus
OK, the Twitch volume slider problem is due to Vivaldi respecting Windows' dark mode for the background, so the slider is being drawn black on black ... -
