Solved Update fails unspecified Error

Hi all, just wondering if someone knows anything about this:

I have got it on the last 2 updates and the only way I can get around it is to manually install (which is a pain)
And no, Vivaldi is not running, there are no processes for it in task manager (that I can find)

@pathduck Well that was fun..
First off, windows would not let me uninstall (as you said it might)
Secondly after deleting the whole vivaldi folder and trying to install the latest version it still came up with the error...
What I did in the end was sort of fool it...
I downloaded the "33" version from the net (found it on filepuma)
Ran that, it let me install it, after which I then ran the latest "41" exe and yay, it let me install it..
So now I am all up to date, and hopefully the issue won't come back to bite me..

There should be a log file in %temp% called vivaldi_installer.log. It might give a clue what is going wrong.

This is the error causing the problem. The file:
P:\Communications\Vivaldi\Application\4.0.2312.33\Installer\setup.exe
is missing.

There's been a number of these lately, and no-one's been able to figure out why it happens. I suspect maybe some installer error, or possibly some very aggressive anti-virus software removes the file.

Unfortunately I think the only option to do a uninstall and install from the latest installer. You won't lose your profile data unless selected during uninstall. Problem might also be you won't be able to uninstall from Windows, also because of the missing setup.exe. If so it should be safe to just delete the P:\Communications\Vivaldi\Application folder and just do a clean install.

I think they've fixed the error message to give a better explanation of what went wrong in the latest Snapshots.

You should be careful with those 3rd party sites. Always download older versions if needed from:
https://vivaldi.com/download/archive/

hopefully the issue won't come back to bite me.

Yeah, I hope so too, that this was just some random glitch.

If you can, check if the setup.exe file it complained about exists now where it should: P:\Communications\Vivaldi\Application\4.0.2312.41\Installer\setup.exe

@pathduck Ahh, thanks for that archive download link, I did look on vivaldi site first, but didn't find any older versions.. (must of been hidden or I just didn't spot it..) - I did scan the file from the other site before I ran it tho and it was clean...
And yes, the installer folder is now there in the "41" directory.
