Writing direction in text fields changes to right to left
-
Hi
I'm using Vivaldi on Linux for years now but a couple of weeks ago I started to notice a strange behaviour that I never experienced before:
Sometimes when I type something into a text field (for example the search field on Google but also other text fields on other websites) it writes rigt-to-left instead of left-to-right.
This happens by itself without any known reason. If I right-click the text field and go to the writing direction, left-to-right will be ticked even if in fact it's right-to-left that is "happening". Ticking right-to-left and then back to left-to-right will usually fix the issue. Until it happens again a bit later.
As far as I can see the issue only happens with text fields that I already have written something before. So if I first write something into an empty text field it never seems to happen. But if I later write something new in a text field that already contains something that I wrote in earlier, it sometimes happens - but not always.
I experience this like twice a day on average for the last few weeks. Had about two Vivaldi updates since then that didn't fix the issue. Currently I am on 4.0.2312.38.
The issue is only in Vivaldi, not in any other software (including Firefox browser) that I'm also using.I use Kubuntu 20.04 with newest patches. Language setting in Vivaldi is German, Keyboard Setting in the system is "German (Switzerland)"

@b00nish Hi, I've never seen this. Are you able to find a way to trigger this behaviour consistently?
My guess is an extension might be causing this. Please try the troubleshooting steps first:
https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/troubleshoot/troubleshooting-issues/Try in a clean profile, change language to English, restart, see if problem goes away. Then change back to German/Swiss and see if it comes back, if so its a language setting problem.
