Vivaldi Mail high cpu usage
-
having Vivaldi Mail enabled causes the browser to use a lot of cpu. In Vivaldi task manager this shows with it spiking sometimes to about 300
This causes the PC to become unresponsive every now and then, especially on first boot-up of Vivaldi.
This happens on several diffrent computers both in windows and Linux, don't have a mac, but I imagine it would be the same
-
still getting this issue on the latest version. here is the Vivaldi task manager in windows (the previous one was linux)
-
still getting this issue on several different computers and os

@zany130
Hi, how many mails you are storing in M3?
I have several hundreds, and I get a spike for 1 second after start Vivaldi at 50% CPU usage.Cheers, mib
-
well it connected to my Gmail which has a few thousand emails on it. cpu usage stay's high throughout the whole run of Vivaldi though, but the worse is at startup.
-
@zany130
Hi, a few thousands shoud indexed in a few seconds, some user have 100000ยดs mails.
Some user report Vivaldi use one core of the system after an update of Vivaldi bit I forgot the workaround to fix it.
This was for Linux only iirc.
The Vivaldi taskmanager show a 4 core system as 400%, one core 100% but you have much more than this.
I hope another user steps by for help, I am out of ideas now. :|Cheers, mib

Not happening to me any more, but it's quite apparent that there has been an issue before and possibly there is an ongoing issue with Mail / RSS / Calendar.

High CPU usage after 5.0 update. Says "Running mail filters..." but I have no filters. I have restarted twice, and it just goes back to the same high CPU usage.
I'm on Arch Linux. CPU is a Ryzen 7 5800x, lots of RAM etc... my specs are not a problem.
I have a lot of emails for multiple accounts in Vivaldi so if it was running filters I could understand it taking a while first time, but I have no filters.
EDIT: I can't sit around messing with this, have work to do. So I can't give any logs etc if you need them, I have to downgrade.
//MODEDIT: merged to related thread
-
Instead of downgrading I disabled mail and the CPU usage went back down (status message about mail filters still shows). So no mail for me until fixed I guess.
-
I have restarted Vivaldi many times, its CPU usage remains high (35-45%). Trash is cleared. I don't see any reason for this behaviour.//MODEDIT: merged to related thread

@va61
Hi, sometimes an extension doesnt work correctly after an Vivaldi update.
Please check the internal Vivaldi task manager from the Tools menu.
May you can check with a guest profile, it exclude all settings and extensions.https://help.vivaldi.com/article/guest-view/
Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin
here the screenshot with the internal task manager. -
@va61
Hm, not a extension obviously.
Please open a guest profile, close your default window and check the task managers again.
Worst case is a broken profile, it depends on your settings, usage of sync how much work it is to fix this.Cheers, mib
-
@mib2berlin In guest profile remains the CPU usage high.

@va61
Hi, I have no idea what happen on your system, some user report such issues but it is rare.
You can test an new installation as "Standalone" install, it is complete independent to your default install.
If this not work I am at a loss.Cheers, mib

I have the same problem as well since the latest update a few days ago. My laptop fan is running almost constantly, when normally it rarely does.
-
still happening to me on my linux desktop running garuda with a ryzen 5 2600x and on my yoga 9i with a Intel Core i7-1195G7
-
Have you tried using a fresh profile?
-
@zany130 Vivaldi is not great at email client but best at browsing.
Disable emails, contacts, & calendar for better performance. Use web version of your email (Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, O365 etc) or outlook.

@zany130
Hi, may your mail database files are corrupted, rebuilding the database solves also other problems with the mail system.
I am not sure if it work without data loss if you use the POP3 system but it is not mentioned in the help description.At the bottom:
