Betas?
-
Do I understand correctly that Mail, Calendar, and RSS feed in the current stable version (4.0) are betas?
Out of curiosity, why are betas in the stable version?
-
@inclement Correct.
I don't have an official answer but I guess is because Mail/M3 and browser are two major projects which have to be joined soon or later (probably around vivaldi 5 or 6).
But... to have a stable mail in vivaldi browser, users who like that have to test it. So, a beta is included in a stable product. -
Thanks, Hadden89.
@inclement Correct.

Oh, sure, of course it needs testing. But that's what beta testing and beta testers are for. By the time it's put in the stable version all that should have been done, I'd think. Doesn't this dilute the notion of a "stable" version?
I'm very grateful to everyone with the fortitude to beta-test, but I don't have the energy ... maybe there aren't enough people doing it, for all I know.

@inclement said in Betas?:

They're beta parts of an otherwise stable version. Don't want to deal with the bugs that come with beta, don't use those parts.

Then don't. Even if you use those beta parts: There's no rule saying that you must beta-test, that you must be on the lookout for bugs and report them.
