google Cal import: some recurring events are duplicate
-
Hello.
I have integrated my Google calendar into Vivaldi (calendar email accounts, Google calendar). The retrieval works, all calendars of my account are displayed.
However, some of the recurring events are shown twice. If you click on them, you can see that they come from the same calendar (a calendar that my wife shared with me). If you look at Google you can see that the appointment is not double, but only displayed twice on Vivaldi.
I have already completely deleted and re-integrated my calendar in Vivaldi. The result is the same. Pretty much all (but not all!) Recurring events are duplicate. These are usually events with a from-to time. All day recurring events do not appear to be affected.
How do I get rid of the duplicate entries?Thank you very much!

@Hexshy Thanks for reporting. This issue has been filed and will be worked on.

It looks like Vivaldi Calendar displays an event from my own Google calendar, but also from the calendars that are shared with me, and that get my events. Thus, like Hexshy's issue, duplicating (tri-/quadro-...) the events.
It is not only for recurrent events. As long as this issue occurs, my Vivaldi Calendar is too cluttered, and I won't be able to use it.
It's a pity, as I want to get rid of my other calendar tools.
I was wondering how high on the bug-list this is, as it happens already since Vivaldi could import Google calendars
Thanks for looking into the issue.

@Hexshy Are the duplicated events in the same calendar? I see the color is the same. Just wondering if you have added your wife's calendar to your google account. Also, did you receive an invite for these events?
I have similar setup between 2x Google users. Both have added each other calendars. If I create event, and invite the other user. I see 2x events. Both in Vivaldi and Google web calendar.
Thanks! Arnar

Yes, they are in the same calender. But it is a single entry in my wifes calendar. Here is a screenshot how I conntected this calendar to my account:
I shared my gmail calendar with my wife and she her calender with me (we use it for years.. ok now you can use a family calendar). In that way I add entries in my calandar and she in her calendar and the entries are synchronised between us. No, we get no invitation for new events. No, we do not invite each other. We just want to see that there is an event.
This is a screenshot from google calendar:
Btw.: In vivaldi calendar is an event Wednesday 15th starting at 8 a.m.:
but as you can see the gcal screenshot before there is no event. The event repeated 5 times weekly from Wednesday 16th June till 14th July.
I hope this helps you!
Best regards,

@hexshy We are trying to figure this out and have not had much luck in reproducing. Have a few questions to try and get clues or eliminate options.
- I assume, but like to ask to be sure, you have just set up one google account in Vivaldi settings? Not connected both.
- If you click the Calendars button in the top toolbar, is the problematic calendar shown more than once?
- This event that repeated five times in google but didn't stop in Vivaldi, it is shown every week, correct?
- The duplicated events, are they duplicated from the first time that they appeared or do they start duplicating at a later point in time?
- If yes to above question. Is it possible that at the time that the event starts duplicating, there was made some change(s) to (or removal of) a single or all upcoming events?
Thanks for submitting your detailed report, it is very valuable to us.

Hi,
Yes, I have only set up one (my own) google account.
The problematic calender is shown singe:
It seems there is only one event duplicate left. All other events are singe. As you can see at the screeenshot the event 8:40 is doubled while 14:00 is singe.
Yes, it is shown every week. In gcal the entry was not deleted but set an final date.
In vivaldi i can´t see this final date.
Duplicated event is from from first start. Sorry, but i can´t see any changes or cancelled events for this entry.
I could delete this entry in my wifes calendar and add a new one to see if this solves the problem. Because it seems this is the only dupe entry left.
Best regards,

@hexshy Sorry for late reply, managed to get myself a tiny touch of this Covid thing that has been going around so I have been taking it slow.
We have been able to reproduce some cases of event duplication and one bugfix is already on our main branch and should be included in next snapshot.
One question that I forgot to ask before. This duplication that you see, it was not fixed by a complete removal of the calendar and re-connecting it. But do you know / remember if the events were duplicated right after connection, or did it take some time for them to appear?
If duplicate events were already present right after connecting the account, then the above mentioned fix will not help, but if they appeared later it might.

Above mentioned fixes plus some minor more related to duplication are included in yesterday's snapshot. If you have a chance to test if that improves your situation that would be appreciated.

@eggert
Hi. I´ve installed Vivaldi 5.0 RC3 Snapshot stream (2497.25)
Unfortunately one entry is still duplicated.

@hexshy We have just added a fix for an issue (VB-71360) with event duplication when syncing calendars from google. Unfortunately, AFAIK, that fix did not make it into 5.0 but it should be coming soon in a release.
Not 100% sure that it applies to your problem, but from what I see here I find it very likely.
Thank you very much for your valued input and I hope that your duplication issues will be gone soon.

I'm still having the event duplication issue.
Also, when I try to delete some calendars in the setting, they are slaggy and seems never deleted completely.

@eggert
Hi, is this is maybe a regression?
All holydays from a Google calendar are spreaded over two days.
Vivaldi 5.7.2928.9Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin Yes this is a regression. A fix for it was pushed yesterday so it should be in today's soprano builds and as well in the next shapshot which is coming soon.
Unfortunately it will not fix the already broken local data yet as we don't have a working mechanism for doing such a fix and need to get it in before the stable release coming up. The easiest fix for this is removing affected accounts and setting up again, then they should. Please be careful to read the warning dialogs through and to remove the whole account but not the individual calendar since that can cause data loss.
An even better solution would be to move to Iceland where we don't have timezone offsets or DST crazyness so this kind of problem doesn't exist
