Gmail won't delete emails
-
I'm having some trouble getting Vivaldi Mail to delete emails properly on my Gmail account.
Before, I thought I was deleting them from my account, but when I logged in with a different client, I noticed that the emails were still present in my inbox.
I thought it might be an issue with Oauth, so I deleted my account and tried logging back in using an app password (I can't figure out how to create one for Gmail).
I logged back in using Oauth, and now Vivaldi Mail won't delete my emails at all. If I click on delete or right click and select move to trash, nothing happens.
Any thoughts or anyone else having this issue?

@cynical13 It's a problem with M3. GMail emails have to be deleted twice.
-
Thank you for the quick response!
How? I'm not able to delete them the first time now?
I am able to delete them with Thunderbird or Outlook, but clicking on delete isn't doing anything right now. Neither is trying to right click and moving them to trash.
-
@cynical13 What mail view are you operating in? What's the "folder" you use to look at the mail list?
-
@ayespy Normally I use it in All Messages Unread, but I moved to my Gmail inbox and wasn't able to do it there either.
-
@cynical13 What do you see if you use just "all messages?" (not unread).
What should happen with gmail is, you click the delete button, the mail seems to go away temporarily, and then it comes back looking as though it's been marked "read," and you delete it again, and now it is only in Trash. If you go to Trash and delete it again, it is gone forever, not even remaining on GMail's servers.
-
@ayespy nothing is happening. If I click delete there, it stays read, doesn't move, nothing. I tried the keyboard and mouse, but it's not deleting. I can make it as read or unread though.
-
@cynical13 is the email by any chance one you sent to yourself? Meaning it is in sent and in some received view?
-
@cynical13 Weird. I have never seen this symptom, in literally years of testing M3. Makes me wonder if something has gotten corrupted in your setup.
-
@ayespy wild wild speculation - I have reported bug VB-79091 where Vivaldi creates a new IMAP trash folder on one of my accounts. So what if for some reason Vivaldi doesn't recognize the trash folder here? (... unlikely because as far as I know trash is just adding a flag but then again, someone said somewhere that Gmail has a weird IMAP implementation)
-
@wildente Nope. One's from Google and the other's from the Red Cross.

-
@cynical13 , I did a test myself. I deleted mails and checked in GMail whether they were gone. They did not disappear from GMail until I reloaded the GMail page.
-
@ayespy Are we talking about my email setup, my Vivaldi sync setup, or my installation of Vivaldi snapshot setup?
-
@jon unfortunately, they're not deleting at all anymore. It's not just that they don't disappear from my inbox after being deleted. I can't delete anything at all from Gmail anymore.
-
@cynical13 Something about mail, apparently. I just can't reproduce your symptoms. Here, mail half-deletes items when you press the "delete" button and fully deletes them if you do it when they show up again. As far as I know, this will have nothing at all to do with sync, though there is some vanishingly-small possibility it could have to do with your snapshot install overall.
-
@ayespy I've deleted the IMAP account and recreated it, but that didn't work. Then I deleted it, shut off Vivaldi and rebooted it, then I recreated the account again, and I still can't delete anything.
I'll keep checking periodically, but it looks like I'll either have to log into the site or continue using Thunderbird or Outlook on my phone to manage it for the time being.

@cynical13
Hi, I had some issues with M3 and was adviced to delete the mail database, then add my email providers again.
I cant remember which file it was and cant look at moment, maybe @Ayespy know.Cheers, mib
