Is there going to be a workable mail program?
-
Just asking so I know what to expect - there seem to be countless issues with the mail client - is there a date that the developers are aiming for to make it work properly?

@mike999
Hi, I use it for some month as my main mail client and had one issue.
I use the IMAP system and cant lost mails but I would not use it for POP3 mail.
IMAP leaves all mails on the mail server.
The status of the Vivaldi client is BETA, before 3.9 it was Technical Preview.
I guess a STABLE will not come before Vivaldi 4.0.Cheers, mib

@mike999 Vivaldi does not offer or estimate time lines for when a given product will reach a particular stage of development. The answer to all such questions is "WIR" - when it's ready. Presently, it has only just graduated to "beta" status. It's not ready for broad public consumption and is not expected to please most consumers.
It has taken nearly seven years of work behind the scenes for the mail client to reach the current state of readiness. Why? Because mail handlers are incredibly complex to code. GMail, with its dozens of developers was in "Beta" for over five years. Same with MailBird, which had, at the time, more than three times as many developers as the Vivaldi client - and Mailbird STARTED with the already-working code on which Thunderbird was based. M3 started with a concept and some recently-proposed fragments of mail code.
So the answer is, no one knows when M3 will meet your standards. At present, it is my default mailer and has been for over a year. Of course my use is not very demanding, since email is the medium via which I conduct my business, I handle hundreds of emails daily in five accounts and have a mail store containing hundreds of thousands of mails - plus my job requires that I have an accessible archive of my communications which, at present, stretches back over 20 years. So I don't ask much, but it meets my needs for now.
Some day, it may meet yours as well. We can only hope, and keep working.

Many thanks for the detailed response - I'll keep hoping and see what arrives
