Malwarebytes found a threat - with your name on it: C:\USERS[ ]\APPDATA\LOCAL\VIVALDI\APPLICATION\VIVALDI_PROXY.EXE
Is that you guys/gals? Should I delete it?
-
@dturnidge Very likely a false positive.
Run the file through VirusTotal file upload:
https://www.virustotal.com/gui/home/uploadHere's a scan from the current 3.8 Stable file: https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/3bc3a64f682e023a465f5e849145fa3be8e2efcfe5ef23646e3d43cab5b83c5a/detection
MWB does not detect it there, but maybe behaviour scan made MWB report it falsely.

@dturnidge , some thoughts for Malwarebytes, it's a good Anti-Malware app
But
1 If you use Windows 10 Defender, the function of MalwareBytes is redundant, except some Adware detection, for which you can use the AdwCleaner (free, standalone)
2 If you have the free version of Malwarebytes, it works only on demand, but same as the paid version, it stays in RAM and waste space, if you don't close the process with the TaskManager, after the use of MWB. -
@catweazle Thank you.
-
@pathduck Thank you. Don't understand why MWB would do a false on my system and then pass it on virustotal...

Perhaps because the file was infected on your system. Viruses can inject themselves into otherwise innocent files. So, did you give the "vivaldi_proxy.exe" from your computer to Virustotal? Or did you just click the link on the earlier post?
-
@eggcorn Yup. Went through virustotal for both of the files. I've got that site on my desktop now. Will be the go-to site for the future if this happens again.
