Mail management Icons disappeared {in GMail}
-
When an email is opened, there are no more buttons above it, such as Archive, Spam, Delete. All there now is, ADD TO TASK. All the choices are now gone and you must hover in the area, to find what you want. Why?
This is has been happening in Firefox for awhile, choices no longer apparent so you must hover the cursor over the blank areas, so you can see when you are over a choice, what it is. No matter how I tried to find a reason why, I simply could not. Vivaldi is a nice browser that I thought about switching over to, but I noted those same choices that used to display names on, are no longer apparent in Vivaldi, either. I've been computing nearly 27 years now, and this is a first for me. Have I missed some some Bulletin that has gone out stating this would happen, or is it I just can't find a way to turn the display back on. Any help? Thank uyou.

I believe this thread is about Vivaldi webmail? @CestmoilaIci just to confuse everyone, this part of the forum is about Vivaldi mail, which is the mail client integrated in the browser.
Anyway, I can't confirm the problem you describe. All icons show in Firefox in https://webmail.vivaldi.net in all views that I have tried. Can you post a screenshot?
Since this seems to happen in both browsers? Do you have some setting on to load only cached images?
-
This thread is about Vivaldi WebMail, which is a community service. It is not about the Vivaldi Browser. I am moving it to the proper category.
Beyond that, I can't reproduce this problem. All icons/buttons are visible.

@CestmoilaIci I apologize that I OFFENDED YOU, MR. MODERATOR, KNOWING THAT THE TROUBLE WAS IN WEBMAIL, INSTEAD OF MAIL. As I said, been computing for nearly 27 years, and I APOLOGIZE FOR NOT HAVING THE MENTAL CAPACITY TO PLACE WEB, BEFOREW MAIL. I'll find my answer elsewhere, and treating a 69 year old as you just did, I'm thankful, I am not YOU.
-
@CestmoilaIci There is no need to take offence when none was given. Ayespy did what moderators should do, moved the topic to the right forum to avoid confusion.
New members are not expected to be familiar with the organisation of the forum, so no one was blaming you for posting in the wrong place — it happens frequently.
I also tested the webmail interface and could not reproduce the problem that you reported. We need more information from you, and perhaps a screenshot.
-
@CestmoilaIci indeed no offence meant, as I said Tha naming of these subforums is confusing. Placing the request here gives your post a wider relevant audience as different members watch different forum categories.
In Vivaldi you can easily make a Screenshot using the little camera icon in the bottom toolbar on the right hand side next to the page zoom controls (copy to clipboard and paste here works)
This would help us help you better. Also, have you checked if you have set Vivaldi to always load images as I asked in my previous post? Thanks!

Out of frustration because of a problem I don't understand, caused me to react badly at what I was told, and for that, I must ask that you please understand me, reacting that way, was wrong of me. I apologize. I'm sorry I lost it.
This morning I have even more trouble. I can't seem to log into the email account I registered with on Vivaldi. First, I have used THREE different email names for some years now. I had gone for so long using Google Chrome, it became like a NOOSE around me, taking control of almost all my dealings, a lot of it I gave it permission to. When I tried to break away from Chrome, I found I had so many web sites I was tied into, I decided to try and separate all I had, into 2 email accounts with Firefox, but found I needed three. Trying to see if I could switch these over from Firefox to Vivaldi, I was actually able to sign in to the three accounts, using Vivaldi. But this morning, no matter which one I sign into, they always open in the same email account, I can't choose which to open instead. That said, I'm trying to reach you, through Firefox, to explain better what I have.
All three email accounts, are in Firefox. But I may have done something I didn't mean to, since one of the three, still seems to have a Chrome connection. By that, I mean that TWO of the Firefox, have those icons missing, while the one I think still tied to Chrome, is working perfectly well, nothing is missing like the other two in Firefox, but in Vavaldi yesterday, all three email accounts had the items missing and showing a blank space instead.
I can easily take a snapshot of what I am seeing, and attach it so you all could see it, but I can't seem to find a mode that allows me to attach it. That small camera icon you say is in the lower right side of the page, I don't see it. If that is a factor only apparent inside Vivaldi, then please remember, I am sending you this, from Firefox.
It's difficult to comprehend that I have ever had this much confusion to to try and understand, and this is my situation right now. If you can somehow understand what has caused this trouble, please let me know. Or if you can receive attachments, I'll be happy to take and send them. Again, I apologize for getting frustrated yesterday and lashing out at you all.

All good no worries, we've all had our computer trouble.
I have to admit that I have some problems understanding really what the problem is when you say you have "mail accounts with Firefox" - Firefox is a browser only. You have your mail accounts with a service provider (like e.g. GMail or Hotmail or https://webmail.vivaldi.com). When icons don't show in Chrome/Vivaldi Browser/Firefox, then that means the corresponding images are not loaded in that Browser - either the browser is set not to load images, or you have a firewall or (ad-?)blocking program that blocks the images from loading.Attaching a screenshot: use the camera symbol to create a screenshot that is then in your clipboard. Go to the forum post that you write, hit ctrl+v for insert from clipboard, and this will add the screenshot to your post

removed broken upload links
I did as you suggested, took a photo and hit Ctrl V and you see above that I tried it twice, and this is what I got. i DID GET AN ERROR: Request ----- to large.
I suppose I am not accustomed to talking in computer lingo, so my stating I had three email accounts in Firefox, meant that it was in the Browser Firefox that I noticed this. All three of my various email names, ARE ALL @gmail.com. So, no I did mean that my email addresses were created using Firefox, Firefox is simply the browser I had been using, but since those various commands are missing, that is why I was trying to use Vivaldi, but that one does no better, so the missing, is still, MISSING.
You mention a couple of options I may have changed in the settings of Firefox, but if I did mistakenly change an option, I had to have changed it in Vivaldi as well.

This is what my snapshot looked like.
If this is just trash you can't use, tell me. I have another option to reduce the format size.

@CestmoilaIci that link doesn't point to a screenshot, doesn't work somehow. Maybe try the link to https://imgur.com/upload that @Gwen-Dragon provided or try to attach directly here with somewhat reduced size (not sure what the limit is, maybe 1MB...?)

Okay. First is snapshot of the page, and the second, is one I cropped to make smaller. Both show all the items are missing, and also, this is a view using Firefox.

@CestmoilaIci interesting. And it turns out that the problem is neither Vivaldi mail nor Vivaldi Webmail, but something in GoogleMail and you see it using Vivaldi. Not that this should stop us from helping
I've used my own GMail account to set the theme with the trees and the lake. Doing this using the Vivaldi Browser, it always applied the wrong theme for me. So it definitely did something funky there, and I have no idea what. While I did not see the same problem that you found, I did see a problem on that service. For me this was fixed by logging in with Google Chrome and setting the theme back to default. (EDIT and later searching in a different manner I found a google support thread that indicates that this can happen to folks not using Chrome ... a rascal who thinks evil of it)
So I suggest you do the same:
- log on to GMail using Google Chrome and do the following steps in Chrome
- Click the gear icon in the upper right hand corner
- Select "See all settings"
- Spot the "Themes" in at the very top horizontal menu
- Click "set theme" (opens a "Pick your theme" dialog)
- Scroll down a bit
- Select the GMail standard one and save
Then go back to your inbox and see if your icons show correctly, not just in Chrome but again also in Vivaldi and Firefox. You can repeat the process and select your preferred theme (again, in Google Chrome). Let us know how this works for you.

I haven't gotten back for a few days, but this is where I am, TODAY. The steps WildEnte last suggested I try, I found I wasn't even able to open a sign in, for Gmail in Firefox and Chrome. My actual sign ins, were all working, but to try and sign in as I was told, I just couldn't. After sniffing around, I found an explanation of hoe to REMOVE Google Chrome, from my computer. It said that when asked if I wanted to also delete all my bookmarks, history, cache, sign ins, I had to agree to it. But something it stated confused me. My User names and passwords, for sign in, I would get back, after reinstalling the latest Chrome, and signing in to my gmail accounts. Once done, all my things would return to my accounts. That confused me, so perhaps I had not read it well, but if a bug was in one of those things I agreed to also delete, what good did it do, if I only got it back?
I started WRITING ON PAPER, all my log in info, for the sites I use. I didn't finish, of course, but I knew to save them all on paper, and to also save on paper all my important bookmarks, before I tried to remove and reinstall Chrome.
Yesterday I was really busy, so I didn't have time to do any more of it, but I did notice that within Firefox, THREE ICONS had appeared again, Spam, Delete, and More. I can't say WHY, but the three showed themselves. Because I was busy, I wasn't able to use Vivaldi and see if it also had the three icons showing. But this morning, all of my icons that are supposed to be viewable, ARE, IN FIREFOX. But they are all missing in Vivaldi. That is why I placed the two photos on here, showing Firefox and Vivaldi, so you could see what I mean.
One browser has them, the other doesn't, and I can't explain why. I'll keep trying to understand the issue, and I'll let you know what I find. Does this make any sense to anyone? And to Gwen-Dragon, thanks for moving the thread. Appreciate it.

@CestmoilaIci Gmail interface is normal in all browsers (including Vivaldi and FF) here, so it's a subject for speculation only at this point. What's happening appears to be local to you.
-
@CestmoilaIci Let's try working on one problem at a time and start with the icons. You said it now works in Firefox and that you have a problem logging on to GMail with Chrome - ok so if you can't reset the theme with like I said before Chrome, can you try to resetting the theme using Firefox instead? Maybe it even works for you doing that in Vivaldi. Let's do that and see if that brings the icons back?
Don't try to delete anything. Google has the data it has, and despite this not being a very comfortable thought, they use it for placing more relevant ads they show you and making money that way for the most part. No need to rush.
@Ayespy other people seem to have seen similar problems. https://support.google.com/mail/thread/4300116?hl=en
