Vivaldi for Linux continues to have compositing problems after resume from sleep
-
First I had problems under MX XFCE and now under MX KDE.
Just suspend your machine with Vivaldi on top showing this site:
https://www.aviationweather.gov/progchart
When you resume, try to click a drop down menu item. Nothing happens, or it executes whatever was under the drop-down menu. Minimize and then maximize Vivaldi and then it works correctly. -
@guigirl
Your signature line indicates you are using Arch? I don't think I have seen it happen on Arch either. Both problems were on MX but seeing how MX is the number one distro lately it might be worth trying there. It wouldn't have to be a full install. MX will suspend/resume from a live session on some hardware. Their KDE is older too. Also, suspend/resume does not require any time in sleep mode to reproduce this, seconds only. It just seems like Vivaldi for Linux is not re-initializing things right after resume. -
@guigirl
OK, so Vivaldi for Linux is really Vivaldi for Arch linux with all your qualifiers. OK, got it , thanks. -
@cmoswizard
Hi and no, I use Vivaldi on Opensuse since the first beta and I hibernate on my laptop daily.
I use KDE and will try it with your linked page and report.Cheers, mib

@cmoswizard
OK, I use hibernate and sleep, both started and AWC is still working.
You can try with a guest profile, close your default profile window and test.
This is a clean profile without extensions and with default settings.https://help.vivaldi.com/article/guest-view/
It is may be a GPU problem, please add your system specs and the Vivaldi version.
OpenSUSE Tumbleweed

Guest window fails on that website after suspend resume. I am using integrated graphics MX KDE all updates. I5-9600k. This happens on multiple installations and machines. Just hover over the "observations" drop down and pick one of the items.
You have to have Vivaldi on top when you suspend and if you ever re-draw (minimize then maximize) it will correct itself and you won't see the failure.

@cmoswizard Try with Chromium, if it happens with it follow the existing's thread recommendation https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/50563/screen-corruption-blank-tabs-after-system-resumes-from-sleep/4
P.S. Also MX seems to not be that good judging the most problems are reported for it, including yours, which are from what I see DE-agnostic, meaning it's not the DE, but MX itself. MX tries to please everyone by including I don't know how many backported and dangerous for dependency-hell "newest-packages & kernels" repos at the same time, but this isn't working in Linux, I would avoid it.

@npro
It does not happen on Chromium. Just tried it.
MX has a feature that is hard to replace. Snapshot to ISO. It's a distro that can spawn and reproduce with memory. Place your fully personalized installation back on a thumb drive and even run live from there. -
@cmoswizard
OK, I restart my system, open https://www.aviationweather.gov
then test Observations > It work.
Send laptop to sleep with page open, start and still work.
I guess it is a combination of Vivaldi and MX Linux.
You can report a bug, maybe a developer can reproduce it.For information on how to report a bug, see this URL: https://vvld.in/how-to-report-bugs
Once that is done, please share the bug number (beginning with VB-). Thanks.Cheers, mib

Done. Bug number VB-78513 -

I don't know how MX maintains its kernels but 5.8 is considered EOL (End Of Life) (https://www.kernel.org), you could try switching to a supported LTS kernel like 5.10 and test again. As you can see all people reporting no problems are on kernel 5.11.x , it could mean everything, it could not.
-
Still happens in MX 19.4 KDE which uses kernel 5.10. I tested this in a virtual machine so completely different "hardware" (Virtualbox).
-
@cmoswizard Sorry, no issues here with MX(ahs) in VBox https://streamable.com/zefp07 or from a Live USB. So, it's up to Vivaldi team to confirm or unconfirm it according to the data you 've provided.
-
@guigirl One could argue about that as it isn't KDE
