Importing from M2
-
I also noticed that M2 import is broken again.
It worked fine until snapshot 4.4.2473.3. After this snapshot Import was not possible at all because the mail import option is greyed out.
Then, with 5.0 final (and also testing with current snapshot 5.0.2497.25) import is possible again, but it does not work properly.
I am importing six mail accounts from Opera Mail, all six accounts are created but only for two of these accounts the mails are imported, the rest remain empty:
Importing exactly these six accounts works fine until 4.4.2473.3.
I have submitted VB-84906 for this issue - FYI @ltgormThanks for checking this!

also reported as VB-84729 here https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/69069/no-e-mailimport-anymore/5

@WildEnte thanks, but this only covers the mail import being greyed out, the primary issue here is that for some accounts no mails are being imported.

@jaws @gmg I found a simple fix/workaround to VB-84729 and potentially VB-84906
So mail is usually located in
C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\Opera\Opera\Mail
but the profile is in
C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Opera\Opera
(AppData\Roaming vs. AppData\Local)While Opera is closed, move the entire mail folder from C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\Opera\Opera\Mail
to C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Opera\Opera\MailNow Vivaldi finds mail immediately, the checkbox is not greyed out and the import works fine. Once the import is done, move the mail folder back to C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\Opera\Opera\Mail and Opera won't even have noticed anything
-
That's a good tip, thanks - however, in my case the profile is contained in a portable installation of Opera Mail, so no user folder involved at all.
The issue described in VB-84906 remains... I am importing 6 mail accounts. The accounts are all created, however just two of the accounts get their mail imported. The order in which I try to import dictates which accounts get imported. So the mail is not corrupted.
I hope they will fix this soon. -
@jaws just install Opera 12.18, copy the mail folder into C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Opera\Opera\Mail and get it over with
Opera12.18 can still be found here --> https://ftp.opera.com/ftp/pub/opera/win/1218/en/

@WildEnte I just tried that - indeed, the mailfolder is now found automatically. However still only the mails for two of the six accounts get imported, the rest is ignored. Trying to delete the remaining 4 accounts and reimporting them still results in only the empty account being created, no mails are imported.
Also, trying to import these account one by one stops importing any mails after two successfully imported accounts. -
@jaws in my case I had some seemingly borked accounts already in the age old Opera. What I ended up doing was to export the mails to mbox files from Opera 12, which is a bit of work but straight-forward:
I used the wrench icon above all messages to show only one account at a time and did this for Received & Sent for each account individually. Right-click the filter you want to export, choose "export" from the context menu, and give the file a nice descriptive name. So I ended up with received and sent mbox files for all my accounts.
Then I closed Opera, renamed the mail folder and fired Opera up again without any mail account. Now I set up some dummy pop accounts with the correct email addresses, and imported the corresponding mbox files back into the fresh mail profile.
Then I had Vivaldi import all those emails after moving the Opera mail folder to appdata/roaming. Yes, it's almost too easy.

@WildEnte - thing is, these exact accounts can all successfully be imported when using snapshot 4.4.2473.3 or earlier. With newer versions it stops working as described above, at least after the second account.
So this obviously is a bug that should be fixed in any case. Unfortunately, I have not heard anything regarding VB-84906 - I hope they will get around to checking this soon. -
@WildEnte I have now tried your suggestion to rule out some defect in my existing M2 mail accounts.
I exported all received and sent filters to separate mbox files and reimported them into newly created M2 accounts within a new Opera Mail installation, so these are clean.Still, Vivaldi Mail will only import mails for two accounts, no matter the order in which I import them.. as a group, separately.. after the second account, no more mails are being imported.
As this is buried deep within this thread and is, in the end, a separate issue than the one initially described here I will open a new thread for this.
Still, thanks for your input!
