Spoiler
Fsck NO !!
LOL
@TbGbe Have you considered SparkyLinux KDE which is closer to your initial distro? It's a certain individual's 2nd choice, so it must be good, considering that this individual has tried almost every distro it exists out there . It also upgrades to higher versions from what I see https://wiki.sparkylinux.org/doku.php/upgrade_higher_release so you should be covered for the future as well (ofc a question in their forums wouldn't hurt )

@guigirl You shoulda tried PCLINUXOS. Based on Mandrake which if memory serves correctly was a Debian fork. Rock solid distro.
P.S.
Just found this, may be out of date. -
@guigirl for those memos. Interesting to read that the DE is not updated.
In the case of @TbGbe though -coming from a fixed environment like Mint and not being sure him wanting to switch to pure rollig distros- I think the Stable edition of Sparky would suit him better, than the semi-rolling you have experience with, all packages are according to Sparky's package list far newer than those of Mint 20.04 which he would have to use as an upgrade from 18.04, which is an awesome fact .

As I have no choice but a new install, I have been thinking on two lines (covered by you both!); a stable (but always lagging behind on updates) or a more "adventurous/rolling" distro but with more up-to-date apps.
From Mint 18.3 I was always frustrated by the limited "older" versions of apps available (e.g. Libre Office), so I am leaning towards the "riskier" path. However, my linux knowledge (especially the multiple command-line utilities) is lacking, so I am trying to find a mainly-GUI driven "slightly risky" path.
Edit: Of course I need Vivaldi Stable & Snapshot in the repo too!!

you don't have to look any further than Manjaro !
I was advised against that by
somebody
your GPU model
Intel i5.
Nvidia
Yes, I have! I know the "difficulties" with Linux (that's one thing I did find out using Mint).

Nvidia. Yes, I have!Wait what does this mean? Is that an Optimus laptop (dual Nvidia/Intel GPUs)? Or you just have the integrated Intel one and using the discrete Nvidia card as your main?
