First let me declare I have never been a fan of the Chromium PDF reader.
I have used Foxit Reader on Windows and Linux for 7 or 8 years and am more than satisfied with it even though I hardly use all its features (like cloud storage and syncing).
I would advise not using the internal PDF viewer and finding a suitable reader for yourself.
There are several available, Sumatra is also highly recommended as is Expert PDF Reader and there are others. -
@Axaroid I notice a significant lag when opening a PDF from an email, but not when opening from a website. Of course, it will depend on the size of the PDF and how many pages there are. I open PDF files using the PDF plugin. Settings, Webpages:
Enable Internal PDF ViewerThere are several PDF files of over 200 pages on my webpage that you can use to test. For me, they all open in a second or less.

@Axaroid No significant lag here. It opens in a little over a second. 24 pages. 1.22 Mbytes is not huge.
Internet Connection: Download = 69.22 Mbps

@Pesala @Axaroid
On first try on Windows it failed to load and an error message popped up with connection fail.
Next try was successful and the page loaded quickly.
Same after restart: Pageload immediately within half a second.I tried it on Linux Mint (that is my standard OS) before, and there the pdf was loading successfully very quicky within a second too.
