All my extensions are gone

  • Started Vivaldi this morning and all my extensions are gone. Out of nowhere. What happened and how can I get them back. Need help. Windows 7 64-bit. Vivaldi 1.0.357.5 (Beta) (64-bit).

  • Did you inspect this with Ctrl Shift E that they are gone?

If there are no extensions, your Vivaldi profile must have be crashed.
Sorry to say, you are force to restore aour previous saved daily backup of profile or reinstall all extensions,

If you use the 64bit version of Vivaldi, you should know that this version is experimentel and may be less stable.

I did, and they are gone. I'm afraid you are right about the crash. I was just hoping there is a way to fix it manually. I had quite a lot configured extensions.

Did not know that. Do you suggest using 32bit version instead? Now that I have my extensions are gone would be good time to migrate.

Thank you for your help and quick reply.

  • Broken settings for extensions or defekctive extension files/directories cant be fixed. Sorry.
I and other people from Vivaldi team dont know how to fix it.
It is easier to reinstall the lost extensions.

You can loose data by program failure, Windows crash, loss of electricity or even HD failure.
I suggest a daily backup of your Windows user directory.

Personally, I have been using the 64 bit version for a few months now (I did use 32 bit before) with no "less stable" problems.
If you are willing to play/test with Snapshots then I feel the distinction is minor as Snapshots are inherently risky anyway.

If you only wish to use the "More Stable" Beta versions, then perhaps you should consider whether to use 32 or 64 bit more closely.

In this particular case (data loss), I believe the problem would have occurred whichever version you were using.

  • Given that Beta and Snapshot versions are neither as stable as a final-release version (that has yet to appear for Vivaldi), potential instability issues should always be kept foremost in mind when using any browser in a critical application. If preserving browser configuration and personal data really, really matter to a user, they should find a way to frequently preserve those files necessary to restoring that configuration and data. Frequently backing up Vivaldi's profile folder is one fairly easy way to do this for browser settings and user data. Even a simple batch-file run via a desktop icon can accomplish this… then all a user has to do is remember to click that icon from time to time. If a crash occurs that damages a user's browser data or settings, simply copy the backup files/subfolders back into the installation's profile folder. With respect to users who employ extensions, these reside in a separate Extensions folder that ought to also be backed up.

  • Hi everyone.
I just got all my extensions gone, from nowhere. Apparently the Zotero Connect chrome extension crashed while I was updating my reference list in MS Office. After the Zotero extension crashed, I relised I had no more extensions.

On the bright side, I have installed the Google Keep Sidebar extension for Opera and is still there.

Any way, I guess that the solution is reinstall everything, Pretty Annoying.

Is there any backup solution? Vivaldi is my favorite browser so far. I don't care about not having a user profile like Firefox or Chrome, but if tis s going to be a frequent issue, I should reconsider my browser preferences.

    Thanks for reading
