Vivaldi 3.6 annoying bug with new page
-
Sometimes when I open a new tab, the address bar is pre-filled with "about:blank" text
It's annoying because I'm used to searching in google at the moment I open a new tab. So, you could easily guess that because of that bug the search term that is sent to google is wrong and results as well.
What do I expect?
The address bar in a newly opened tab to be empty 100% of the times. -
It's set to "blank page" as it were in the previous version of Vivaldi
Keep in mind that it does not always happen, only in 20% of cases.

I began experiencing this bug yesterday in Vivaldi for Windows upon upgrading from 3.5 to 3.6. My "New Tab Page" button is set to "Blank Page" and I also have an about:blank bookmark on my bookmarks bar which also opens a new blank tab. Both of these now open a new tab with "about:blank" in the address bar, and the cursor positioned after the "k" at the end. However when I instead set "New Tab Page" to "Start Page", my new blank tab bookmark works perfectly again. The blank page opens with the cursor positioned inside a blank address bar. The problem persisted when tested with a fresh Vivaldi 3.6 standalone installation.

This bug is very annoying, and I constantly open new tabs to type a URL. IS there any workaround for this until they fix this issue?

@Ashdemai As Gwen said above:
use Speed Dial as page for a new tab.
Other methods:
- Search from the address bar using shift+enter
- Use F2 quick commands (always open in new tab)
- Search with selected text

Similar here. I have Speeddial as start-page and get this on browser-start:When I paste a link from clipboard it is added to
vivaldi://startpage
and I can't open that link. I first have to deletevivaldi://startpage
.Is there a reason for prefill that in adress-bar? It's annoying.

That was a fast reply, this seems to work. Thank you!

I couldn't reproduce this but what's been annoying me is the fact that every time I open a new tab/page, the search bar on speed dial is highlighted instead the address bar, I looked through Settings and couldn't find a way to change this behavior, am I missing something?

@Scristiano Settings, Tabs, Disable:
Focus Page Content on New Tab -
@Pesala thank you very much! Worked as a charm.

As @acheshirov wrote in the beginning, the main issue is the prefilled input in adress-bar when open a new tab or starting the browser.
In his case it is prefilled with
about:blanc
.
In my case it is prefilled withvivaldi:startpage
.@Gwen-Dragon wrote
That is a known bug since 3.5 Stable.
I created a internal bug report:
VB-76476 "Regression: Use of a blank page as new tab shows sometimes about:blank in address field"I wrote a bug-report about my similar issue now:
Adress bar is prefilled with vivaldi:startpage when starting browser Key: VB-77106

I mad a new report because the report you made is concerning new page when browser is already open. In my case the bug is only there just when starting the browser.
Later, when I open a new tab, the adress bar is presenting empty. -
@Gwen-Dragon My issue seems to be fixed with the new snapshot of today!
