Solved Occassionally, I can't close tabs
-
Somewhat sporadically, I'm finding that I can't close tabs. When this happens I find I can keep opening more tabs, and I can also switch between tabs, but clicking the 'x' (close) icon in the tabs themselves—or indeed using the
Ctrl + W
keyboard shortcut—doesn't work.I haven't yet identified a particular trigger for the problem, I'm afraid, but if I can share any more info please let me know what might help

Hello there, check the list of keyboard shortcuts:
go to Settings >> Keyboard -
I also am now getting this on 4.1.2369.11 (Stable channel) stable (64-bit) on linux mint 18.3. it happens when I have two instances of Vivaldi open on a dual monitor setup. Happens all day, every day. Only started for me on this version. Tabs wont close on one screen. If I close all tabs on other screen it will free up the closing of tabs on the second screen. I hope this helps.
its actually doing it as I type this very message. I cant close these tabs at all unless I shut down the second instance running on the other screen.
I hope this link isn't prohibited. Its my first post on the forum.

I experience the same problem and it seems to be a problem with the "mouse over"-handler on the tabs.
This is how I can reproduce the issue:
- Open enough tabs so they get "squeezed" together across the width of the window
- Use the mouse to close the rightmost tab using its "X"-button. Do not move the mouse!
- The next tab "slides" over. It appears under the mouse cursor, but the "X"-button does not automatically appear (the "mouse over" event does not get triggered on that tab!)
To close the tab:
- Move the mouse over to another tab
- Move the mouse back to the rightmost tab
- The "X"-button re-appears and can be clicked
The bug fix would be to re-evaluate the mouse event(s) once the tabs re-distribute.
Here is a screen recording of the issue:

I was able to reproduce the issue you stated on first try Hotkey. I hope the devs see these posts. For me this makes Vivaldi almost unusable until fixed. I keep two instances open and often drag a tab from one instance to another. All of that works perfectly. It just goes down hill as soon as you want to close some tabs. Another thing to note is... the X does not work closing the tabs.. neither does middle clicking the tab.. neither does "close all tabs to the left or right" feature nor a "close all tabs" chrome add on. So its more then the X itself being the problem.

The dev team rarely reads here. You should report a bug to bug tracker.
Please read Help us to reproduce the issue carefully and then report bug to Vivaldi tracker.

4.1.2369.11
just a small update. moving from 4.1.2369.11 to 4.1.2369.18 the problem still persists as usual but now my 3rd party add on called "Close Other Tabs" is now able to close the tabs when clicking the X on the tabs fails.

I reported the issue as VB-82192

@hotkey thank you so much for reporting this. I have not yet found a reliable combination of things open that reproduces this issue. Incidentally I just booted my system into Windows 10 for the first time since 2016 and installed Vivaldi. I ran only a single instance of the browser and opened several craigs list tabs. I could not close any of them. So this problem is far beyond Vivaldi and Linux. Windows 10 users must be seeing this often. This might also have something to do with multiple tabs open from the same web source.
