Crunchyroll ads being blocked when only "Block Trackers" is selected
-
I only use the Block Trackers setting on websites that I like and trust. In the case of Crunchyroll (the non-piracy anime streaming website), it seems that even with just Block Trackers, ads aren't playing. When an ad is supposed to come on it cuts into a loading/buffering screen, and a few seconds later it continues playing the episode I was watching.
At least I know that the blocker works great, but it's still wrong that the tracker blocker blocks ads. I can think of several reasons for this, but I have no idea what the true reason is:
- Is this a bug in Vivaldi's blocker?
- Is this a mistake in the databases that the blocker uses?
- Are Crunchyroll's ads somehow tied to trackers, such that it's impossible to block one without the other?
I know it's weird to be complaining about not seeing ads, and yet here I am
any suggestions?

@NeatNit I can confirm ads are being blocked on the site before videos play, with only the tracker-blocker active. I think the problem is simply that what is defined as an "ad" or "tracker" varies depending on who you ask.
Vivaldi uses the DDG Tracker Radar list for the tracker blocker. The current list appear to define the domain
fwmrm.net
as a tracker:"fwmrm.net": { "categories": [ "Ad Motivated Tracking", "Advertising", "Analytics", "Third-Party Analytics Marketing" ], "owner": { "displayName": "FreeWheel", "name": "FreeWheel", "privacyPolicy": "http://freewheel.tv/privacy-policy/", "url": "http://freewheel.tv" }
But I really have no idea how the DDG list works, how to override it or where it gets its data from. I guess you could report it as a "bug" but I doubt Vivaldi will contact the DDG people to have the domain removed.
I would be satisfied that ads/trackers are blocked without the site breaking and videos not playing. If you want to support the site you can make an exception for the site. After all, trackers are obviously a part of how they make the $$$ to show those amazing anime videos for free

I have a similar issue. When I have Block Trackers on, but not Block Ads, some websites complain via a popup that I am blocking ads: pandora.com, m-w.com, etc.
