Can you perhaps check which cookies are being blocked on YouTube on your system?
Yes, once you check DevTools > Network

I think you're misunderstanding, my problem already seems to be solved and it doesn't seem to be related to uBlock Origin, at least not in my case. If I allow third party cookies on youtube.com, then I can see the comments.
Also, don't forget that I'm not logged into my Google account, because comments will always work when you're logged in, that's why I believe something weird is going on. Google should stop depending on third party cookies, Google Drive will also not work without them.
-
@RasheedHolland And have you checked if anything is being blocked in DevTools or the uBO logger?
For me, testing YouTube in a clean profile of Vivaldi Snapshot and Stable, with 3rd-party blocked, the following cookie domains are blocked:
I can still see comments...

I tried to check it before with the uBlock Logger but it's too complex for me.
However, there is definitely something weird going on, because in another Vivaldi profile, I couldn't see comments once uBlock was disabled, but it did work with uBlock enabled. But according to Vivaldi, some third party cookie is still being blocked, but it doesn't display anything.
I guess I should be glad that it's somehow fixed, I will now stop with the troubleshoot, because this all hardly makes any sense. I don't know why you can see comments without allowing third party cookies on YouTube. I also don't know if it's some bug in Vivaldi when combined with uBlock.
EDIT: It seems like consent.youtube.com also plays a role, because if it's being blocked then eventually it will stop loading comments. And of course certain filters in uBlock also play a role.

@guigirl I was asking RasheedHolland if they had checked the DevTools, not you. But for some reason this is much too complicated for them, even though they're able to install an adblocker extension, probably install custom lists, examine cookies, and make up all kinds of magic theories about unexplainable things happening, instead of just doing what's actually needed to troubleshoot the issue...
I was asking you about the uBO logger because I'm aware you likely know your way around uBO, you've probably used the logger before, and you're able to reproduce it (something I'm not), then it might actually be helpful. Instead of giving your opinion on whether YT comments are useful or not, which is IMO a pretty pointless discussion.
Maybe I forgot the magic word...
-
@guigirl Yeah, blocking 1st party cookies will definitely break web sites in many ways
But you do seem to enjoy site breakage, so you keep doing youBut, wouldn't it be better, instead of using a blacklist of sites you don't want cookies from, use a whitelist instead of sites you trust and like to stay logged in to, like this forum for instance? Surely the number of of sites you trust would be a lot less than the sites you do not - i.e. the entire rest of the internet?

That's the thing, I don't see why I need to troubleshoot it any further. It's clear that in certain cases uBlock might block the comments, then the solution is simple, disable certain filters until it works. However, on my machine I get this problem even without any active extensions and I was somehow able to fix it by allowing certain third party cookies. So hopefully this will help people who might encounter this problem in the future.

BTW, this issue is still not solved on both my desktop and laptop, I still sometimes need to clear cookies in order to make the comments load. I think Google messed up big time. And keep in mind even when uBlock is disabled, comments won't load. I believe it has got something to do with cookies.

Well, I DID check the Dev Tools, and lo and behold, I got comment_service_ajax? listed in red as 404 under status. So where would I go from here as far as figuring out why this is?
-
@CodeProgrammer Good, then you know this is stopping comments from loading. However, are you sure you're getting a 404 (Not found) error? That would usually indicate an error on YT's side. Unless you have some kind of proxy or VPN that intercepts these requests.
If requests are blocked by for instance an ad-blocker they would show with status (blocked:other).
Just in case, check you have the Vivaldi ad-blocker disabled, either for YT or globally. And that you're not running any other extensions. Might be an idea to clear cache and cookies as well.

BTW, only now I realize that certain problems that I was having with websites was caused by blocking of third party cookies. I could never load the Dutch Nintendo Switch games site, not even with all extensions disabled. But when I allowed third party cookies, it did work.

@RasheedHolland I block 3rd-party cookies, I still see comments on YT. Have you checked DevTools > Network?

What do I need to look for? I don't know how to figure out what's being blocked, I didn't see anything strange. But it's indeed very weird that you can keep blocking third party cookies while still seeing YT comments. For me they stop loading after a few days and then I need to clean cookies. For now I have enabled third party cookies to see if this problem disappears.
