3.6.2137.3 Snapshot crashing when trying to access any site
-
@DarylO I'm referring to
~/.config/vivaldi-snapshot
-
@jumpsq So, that WHOLE folder is the 'profile'?
-
@DarylO it's not, but it will be easiest if you do a full backup anyways to just replace the whole folder (and possibly delete
~/.cache/vivaldi-snapshot/
) -
@jumpsq You would think there might be issues if one downgrades to an earlier version and then overwrites the directory with an older backup. In any case, this version should have never been released. I couldn't click on a single browser tab or even click on 'About' in the Help menu without it immediately crashing. Ridiculous! I lost all of my labels, too! What did they spend four years working on?!!
-
@guigirl Stable doesn't have the mail client. I've waited several years for Vivaldi to release a long-promised email client. I had expected the email client to be a whole lot further along than this! I don't really care about the browser functionality -- I've moved on to Microsoft Edge -- but I couldn't even check on the app version without it crashing!

OK
Maybe have another look when Mail is released in Stable (not just as experimental)! And just avoid the Snapshot branch (even if testing something you want is enabled; as you don't seem to understand how "testing" works).

Correct.
Nah. But anyway it’s still an experiment there as well as in the Snapshot.

@DarylO When something is released as "experimental" there is a BIG RED WARNING before you enable it.
Perhaps you should read it next time! -
@DarylO Now tell me what makes you say that.
2137.3 crashes for many Linuxers, but not for all (so even if the bug did exist before they’ve rebuilt it for the Snapshot stream, it could be unnoticed).
M3 works reasonably well for me. -

@DarylO That the M3 is not even α, that the devs are bad…

@DarylO Well, it definitely isn’t ready for a stable release, but OTOH the completer it is, the harder it is to find the bugs. But what you said earlier sounds more like ’It isn’t usable at all’
-
@guigirl Well, some people have higher standards than you.

The current snapshot version indeed wasn't usable at all as I couldn't even check the version without it crashing. What other option did I have but uninstall it and reinstall an earlier version? When the developers noticed this bug, why didn't they roll back all Linux users to the previous version?
-
@guigirl You're very welcome! I hope you have higher expectations in the future!

Again, this is an issue of the 2137.3 itself, not the M3.

Coz they couldn’t. They’ve done as much as possible — disabled the download link, & AFAIK, removed it from the repo’s package info (YKWIM, simply disabled autoupdate). They cannot do this for the other repos though.
