Disqus pop-up no longer self-closing
-
I've been experiencing changed behaviour for quite a few snapshots with regard to the Disqus sign-in on sites which use it for comments. Whether I 'Log In' or 'Cancel' the 'Sign in to Disqus' pane that pops up, it no longer self-closes - it remains on-screen with no content and 'Blank Page' in the title-bar. It self-closes when tested in FireFox and Chrome.
Is this change in behaviour an 'unanticipated feature' in V or, perhaps, a change to default settings - or just me?
Win10, 2115.67, Tracker & Ad Blocking both Active, 3rd party cookies blocked. no extensions.
Same behaviour in 2110.3 running standalone on Win7 'first time' with no pre-existing profile. -
@Society I can confirm this happening. It also happens with Paypal sign-in when it uses pop-ups. This used to be an issue long ago as well, so I think it's an old bug returned.
Please report the issue as a regression:

Make sure to include sample URLs to test and reproduction steps. -
Thanks for confirmation. I realised it had once been a problem but can't remember when that was originally fixed or, indeed, precisely when the regression arose.

@Gwen-Dragon Sehr geehrte GD: as this subject has come up, can I draw to the attention of those in a position to do something about it that I've been having Disqus login issues with Vivaldi for ages (Months/over a year?).
I want to post a comment BTL.....click on Disqus login and get the popup....do the accursed Captcha trial ( a crosswalk??)...get "error submitting form" message in popup....follow the link it gives me to Disqus HQ and login there...more Captchas (Is it what we Brits call a zebra crossing? Surely far more sensible to call a traffic control feature after a wild animal endemic to the plains of Africa than to call it what it actually is, i.e. a "cross"- "walk"......) anyhowz; back from Disqus HQ to the magazine page, then have to find a Disqus icon to click on before I can post a comment.......forgotten what pearl of wisdom I'd been intending to impart by now!
I don't get the issue with FF/Brave Beta/Edge. Still happens on Vivaldi with extensions disabled.
Just as well I love Vivaldi! Can anything be done?
Herz. Gluck.

@JLC1984 Why some people get a lot of Captchas and some do not is one of those unanswered mysteries of the web I'm afraid. Since the most common type, reCAPTCHA, is owned by Google, it tends to be more lenient towards those who already have cookies from Google on their system. Unfortunate but true...
Best thing for now is to wait until the pop-up bug is gone, it might improve things for you.

Hi.....just to be clear about it (possibly unlike my last missive) the problem isn't getting the Captcha popup and having to tick several test-boxes correctly; it's the fact that I always have to go from the original popup to Disqus HQ and go through a re-login (plus Captcha, obvs.) there before I can go back to the magazine/newspaper page to comment.
Maybe Vivaldi's fix of the popup bug will ameliorate my inconvenience- we shall see! -
@JLC1984 Are you blocking 3rd-party cookies? Check your settings under Privacy > Cookies.
Also to make sure check the URL:
chrome://settings/cookies
. Make sure "Allow all cookies" is selected. When on the discussion page, click the Site Info (padlock) icon, go to Cookies > Blocked and see if there any entries.

@Pathduck Thanks for the reply; but my cookie-settings are the same in all browsers. In the interests of experimentation, I'll try what you suggest, but if I have to allow all cookies when I'm using Vivaldi just to get Disqus to work a bit better, I'll put up with the inconvenience. Thanks again for your prompt input.

@J1984 Are you the same user as above? Why do you have two users
Anyway, if you are blocking 3rd-party cookies and prefer to keep doing so, you can still accept cookies from Disqus explicitly, but it's more technical. Go to the URL:
chrome://settings/cookies
Then add[*.]disqus.com
under "Sites that can always use cookies".
I do the same and it works fine. It just means the browser will accept cookies from Disqus even when you're on other domains. -
@J1984 Updated.....tried what you suggested; didn't make any difference. Not to worry; it's only a minor niggle.
-
@Pathduck I'd forgotten the password to the J1984 account.
-
@JLC1984 I've retrieved the password now.

Fixed in 3.5.2130.3 snapshot
