Vivaldi's password manager NOT save passwords of some sites
-
There are some sites that I can't get Vivaldi to save the password I enter.
Not sure if at some point I clicked the "Don't (or never) save button"
How can I force Vivaldi to save those passwords that it refuses to save? -
thank you
-
Can I piggyback onto this thread and ask why Vivaldi won't save log-on credentials for vivaldi.net (this forum) and vivaldi.com (the blog)?
Seems a but ironic that I have to manually (remember and) enter my username and password for these sites, no?
-
@wpcoe I'm guessing Vivaldi's password manger was inherited from Chromium. Meaning that it wasn't designed specifically for Vivaldi (lots of browsers use it), or for this website.
-
Strange, my login is remebered only on forum (vivaldi.net), when I try to login from the blog, for example from https://vivaldi.com/blog/desktop/vivaldi-3-5-rc-1-desktop/ (where I am usually logged in automatically if I am on the forum), nothing happens, I'm still appearing as not logged in. Probably a malfunction on the .com site.
Now I logged out from the forum, then logging back in, now I appear logged also on the .com site. Go figure. -

Mine have been saved in V for years.
Have you followed the internal link provided by @Gwen-Dragon ?
Under vivaldi://settings/passwords > Never Saved (Sites which never save passwords will appear here) there are no entries, so I think that's a dead end. It was worth a shot, though.
Do you ever log out of the blog/forum? If I don't log out, it seems like I stay logged in from session to session. BUT, if I log out, when I go to log in for a future session, the credentials have not been saved.

The last two times this happened to me [not for the Vivaldi site, some other non-V sites], once i verified that i'd not previously told V not to save those passwords, the only way i was able to solve it was via the nuclear option. In your profile's Default folder, find & delete files containing
Login
in their names. You will lose all passwords saved therein, but once you've recreated them, they will all work correctly again.I'm a fan of non-nuclear treaties.
I have so many usernames/passwords saved that losing them all is a major PITA.
Before I un-/re-installed Vivaldi, I copied Login Data to another drive . I also did export the usernames/passwords to a .csv file, but it was a major PITA to keep looking them up for each and every web site. So, I copied the old Login Data back into my new installation
So, I guess I will just live with the compromise: easy access to all web sites except Vivaldi's forum and blog. It just seems ironic that I can't rely on Vivaldi to save the credentials for Vivaldi sites.

@wpcoe And have you tried the suggestions earlier in this thread?
@Gwen-Dragon said in Vivaldi's password manager NOT save passwords of some sites:
Then open in Vivaldi this URL chrome://settings/passwords and check if there are settings on which domains/URLs no logins should be saved.
Have you checked this? Note the correct URL is
chrome://settings/passwords
and notvivaldi://...
I have no problems having Vivaldi remember and use the login for the V forums. In fact I hardly ever never need to re-login because it seems the forum cookies last "for ever".
I DO have a problem with staying logged in on
vivaldi.net
(blogs) but it's likely because these cookies are session only.Login Data
is an SQLite format file and you can open it in a SQLite DB-browser. Passwords are encrypted obviously, but you can verify its credentials are saved. Or you can use ChromePass to view the passwords decrypted as well. -

Yes, I went to "chrome://..." (Actually I selected it from @Gwen-Dragon's post and right-clicked on it and chose "Go to...". ) I just was sloppy typing "vivaldi://" in my post.

I'm in the habit of signing out of sites before I leave them. Guess I'm at fault for doing it on Vivaldi forum. Blame the victim, and all.

Or you can use ChromePass to view the passwords decrypted as well.Perhaps good to know if the file were editable, I guess. For read-only it seems easier to just save it in a .csv file I can open in any spreadsheet. Regardless, I'm not given an option to save the password/username for the Vivaldi sites and if Vivaldi does already have them saved, it's not offering me a chance to use them.

@guigirl You can export passwords as .csv files from
chrome://settings/passwords
. To import passwords, you need to enable#PasswordImport
flag. -
I found a workaround that actually works!* I exported my Login Data as a .csv file
* I edited the .csv file to add forum.vivaldi.net and my username/password
* I imported the edited .csv file into Vivaldi@guigirl's suggestions above about exporting/editing/importing the password/username data works!
The first time I went to forum.vivaldi.net the username/password fields were blank, but clicking in the username field prompted Vivaldi to offer my newly-saved-into-the-.csv-file credentials and I logged on.
For all subsequent times I go to forum.vivaldi.net the username/password fields are already populated with my saved credentials.
Score!

@guigirl Holy crap, I misunderstood your original (pre-coffee) post! I humbly apologize for sounding like I re-created the wheel when it was exactly what you posted.
-
Thank you
I was able to save the password but when I get to the site the password is not being entered by the browser.
At least now I have the password saved with all the others
thanks again -
For those of us who skip to the end of the posts for an answer, it is:
chrome://settings/passwords
Go to that URL and alter the password settings settings. Finally, is that URL exposed anywhere in Settings?
I certainly can't find it, and if not, how would you EVER find it if it weren't for this thread?[After hunting around I find that searching in Help for a few alternatives (none saved) and ending up with never save passwords as the search term, the above URL is cited.]
[Searching in Help, I discover, is Vivaldi's way of providing a Table of Contents.]I note that both
chrome://settings/passwords
and
vivaldi://settings/passwords
are valid pages, though different.
I further note that under some circumstances, if you paste chrome://settings/passwords into the address bar, Vivaldi will alter it to vivaldi://settings/passwords
This may make accessing chrome://settings/passwords difficult.13Oct'21
