Connect & Fetching & Indexing loop
-
Hi all,
I'm trying to sit back on "rusty Opera 12.17 train" with grand new M3 client (using Vivaldi as default since major version 3) and run into next trouble when using two different accounts on the same server: Second account on that server runs into connecting & fetching & indexing loop - every second or two.
Tried to delete second account from mail setup and recreate with the same result. I'm willing to help to resolve but need a little guidance to do so, ie I don't know how to show IMAP log.
Both accounts are IMAP, the only difference is username and password pair.Hope that all childish bugs will be beaten soon to gain back productivity with integrated mail client.

@Poli In order to show the IMAP log, you must first enable it in mail settings, and then re-start the browser. You can then see the console by inspecting background page on the mail panel, and note that it scrolls at a furious pace, meaning that you have to scroll to a motionless part of it to capture anything.
You can then copy and paste into a code block - assuming you have anything you think might be useful to look at, and THEN, this should be an attachment to a bug report - because no one here has the slightest clue how to read mail logs. Only the mail devs can do that.
NOW - as to your separate accounts on the same server - this is the same server but different usernames and passwords? I do this with 3 gmail accounts, no conflicts. It is just POSSIBLE (though I thought this problem solved) that on one of your accounts, M3 is encountering a mail it can't fetch, and just keeps trying over and over to log in.

Thank you for the guidance, I was close but needed to switch troublesome account to offline and back on to actually fill the log. As the report bug in Help menu throws me to the forum, I'm posting the link to log here to keep everything together. I cannot read from the log where the problem is but at least it documents the problem observed.

@Poli Read up on how to file a bug report.

@Ayespy Done. Thank you for your patience

Tried with most current snapshot and the problem was still here. So I deleted IndexedDB folder as found in some newer thread. With this approach I found a barrier beyond which M3 couldn't fetch. Deleting mail on that barrier in web interface resulted in M3 fetchin several other items. Looped again and again and after deleting several emails that M3 cannot fetch (there were readable in web interface without problem) and now it works in M3 OK with this account.

@Poli I may have a similar problem.
What kind of mails can M3 not fetch? And how did you identify which mail that was? With me, the situation is like this:
GMX-Account (IMAP) is not always downloaded correctly
Vivaldi tells me there are 3378 mails in the account, 1461 not read and 1239 new ones
When I stop vivaldi (during the night) and restart vivaldi (and the laptop) it seem to pickup most of the night.
New mails arriving while vivaldi is running seem to be ignored (even with manual call) -
I don't know, what to respond. All that mails have nothing special when compared to the others. At least not in the mail body - some amount of text, usually an image as attachment. But that is true for 80% of all the mails in the box but the problem was only with a few of them. As those were 5 year old never to need again mails, I deleted them. A while after I successfully loaded all of the mails I had realized that sending them to Vivaldi dev team could led to finding the root cause but at that time the mails were already gone.
From the time months ago, no problem have occurred again. But at that time with the latest snapshot, there was no way to make Vivaldi fetch another mail from that account. Restarting Vivaldi didn't help. Cannot say if later versions have solved id.

I am also experiencing the same issue with Vivaldi.3.7.2218.52.x64. I have an iCloud email account that Vivaldi just can't figure out how to deal with. The only way I can retrieve new mail is to delete the mail account and re-add in the settings panel. Without this, Vivaldi would be stuck in a Connect->Index loop and never end up fetching any new messages.
