Sending emails
-
Anyone been able to send an email using M3? For me, pressing the button does nothing. No error message, no email sent, nothing happens at all. My Outgoing Server has been set up correctly (and all the setting accepted) but I just can't send anything.
-
@BobD Can you check your Outbox, maybe you queued the emails instead of sending them?
-
@jane-n I checked that the button was set to Send and not Queue, and I also can't find an Outbox folder anywhere. Within All Accounts and my specific account, all I can see is Inbox and Sent (which is empty)
-
So comparing my UI to the screenshot in the https://vivaldi.com/blog/vivaldi-mail-technical-preview/ page, I am missing all folders under All Messages except Spam, and presumably all the same folders under each individual account.
-
Thanks for the extra info. The missing folders are related to an issue the devs are already looking into. That issue only affects users with old profiles.
We'll test sending emails in such cases as well. -
@jane-n Thanks for that. I will wait for the next snapshot then. I've been waiting so long for the mail client that I can wait a little longer :). I was so happy when I saw the snapshot announcement today though. Been an Opera user since the very beginning (until it switched to Chrome), and absolutely loved the integration of M2 with Opera.
-
FYI I have the same issue. Only the Spam folder appears under All Messages, and I cannot send any emails.
-
Same issue here. All messages shows only "spam" and no sending possible. Activated email in the Vivaldi install I've been using since a long time, using my vivaldi.net address. The emails all were fetched into the "all accounts" filter, which now (due to trying to send an email?) shows an exclamation mark to indicate some error. Not sure where to look to analyze that error.
-
@BobD Same for me. Can't send any mail.
(but I'm 100% sure about which send button is the one to use- I feel stupid)
(Windows 10)
-
Same issue.
Cannot send email and only 'Spam' shown in "All messages".
In addition, I do not see any Flags, Labels etc.P.S. Fixed that by deleting some files in profile folder as per the message: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/53293/introducing-vivaldi-mail-in-technical-preview/165?_=1606339586732

I have the same issue as well.
Old profile. Only 'Spam' shows up in 'All Messages'. Tried sending an email and nothing happens when I press send.
I'm not sure if this is another symptom, but when I try to create a calendar, nothing happens either. I tried making a Local calendar. I can use the + button to add an item to the list, but clicking the Create Account or Create Calendar button does nothing. When I tested again, I left the calendar account as a Vivaldi account, and with no credentials entered, after clicking Create Account, I get the message 'account created'. But no account is created.

@ugly , this is known with some profiles. I can tell you that a fresh profile is likely to work just fine. We are working on a solution, but if you want to test things quickly, just do a fresh install in a new folder.

Thanks. I did a quick test using a standalone installation (thanks to @Ruarí for the script).
On a quick test, it looks like everything works as expected. I get all the folders in my 'All Messages' section. I was able to send an email and there was already a local calendar created.
I really like the look and feel of this so far. It definitely has the familiar feeling to M2 that I still use.

Following the advice here https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/53457/mail-fix-send I now have all the correct folders and the Send button does something. It now fails to send, but that seems to be because of authentication issues with my outgoing servers, which I am working on (although the settings do match those on my tablets and other devices so they should work, but they have been known to be temperamental before).
-
The Authentication error I am getting is TT320 from TalkTalk, which according to some webpages "is a security block being applied because of a large number of authentication attempts in the last hour."
Does M3 do a particularly large numbers of authentication attempts (either initially when the account is created or subsequently)?
Maybe it will resolve itself if I just leave it for long enough.
I have added my Vivaldi email and that is working fine. That account is also showing INBOX, Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk, whereas my other accounts are still just showing Inbox and Sent. The All Messages folder is showing Unread, Received, Sent, Drafts, Outbox, Spam and Trash (and was doing so before I added the Vivaldi mail). Should the other accounts show the same similar folders?
-
@BobD , it does sound like your server is blocking the client. It is possible it tried a few times and got blocked. Waiting can help, but you also should check again that all the settings are correct. Note that you need to enter the port numbers for the servers, if you are doing this manually. We have gotten a few messages on people misreading that one and we will fix it.
I would expect you to get the same folders as you would in webmail and in other clients. You might want to enable showing unsubscribed folders and see if you need to subscribe to some more. What mail service are you using?
-
@jon, I had entered the ports exactly as on my other clients. I wondered if it might be related to my VPN, so I disabled that and then all the accounts verified without authentication error. I then reenabled it and they continued to work, which is fantastic. No idea if it was just time, or the turning off (for a minute) of the VPN.
My Show Unsubscribed Folders option is on and my mail service is TalkTalk in the UK (not a very good service at many times, but I have so many email addresses and subscriptions linked to them).
I have spotted something quite odd since getting the Sending to work:
My All Messages\Unread folder is showing more messages than All Messages\Received, even though they have the same options selected in the Search bar.
The missing messages are all ones which I have sent using Vivaldi from one of my accounts to another. Those messages appear in the correct individual Inboxes but the actual contents of the message are blank in the preview window, but do appear if viewed via All Messages\Unread.
Thank you for (and the Vivaldi Team) for all your amazing work on Vivaldi (and Opera before that). I really loved Opera before it all started going wrong, and Vivaldi has been a joy since the first snapshot. I've been looking forward to the mail client ever since and it does not disappoint (for a TP it is very polished).
-
@BobD , I am glad things are working for you now. Not sure what this was about, but happy it is working now!
So the folders are still missing even when unsubscribed folders are on, or are these folders not on the server either?
Hmm. The issue you describe with Unread and Received sounds like a bug to me, to be frank. We have been dealing with mails sent between accounts before and it may be that there is still an issue.
Thanks again for your kind words.
-
@jon Looking at the WebMail client for TalkTalk there are only Inbox, Sent, Drafts and Spam, and presumably at least some of those are just part of the WebMail client rather than "real" folders maybe. So perhaps I shouldn't expect those to be replicated in M3? Should there be a Drafts folder per account, or just one in All Messages?
Would you like me to raise a bug report for my Unread/Received issue or based on your comment is it likely to be something that you will be looking into anyway?
