So according to one of the posters there, Google themselves don't read those forums, but I sent feedback through the GMail web app itself, as suggested. Perhaps that will be equally useless, but I'm desperate here!

Seeing, or so it seems, that the problem that you have to wait for google to authorize access via OAuth2, why isn't another type of validation implemented in vivaldi mail, as other email managers have (for example normal password)? and thus we avoid waiting for google to decide.

@pantantrollo , we are working on that as an option as well. It does require the user to go into the Google settings and change some things, but for advanced users, clearly that is an option.

Especially for those of us still on M2, we would not need to change a thing :-D.

Is there actually any difference function-wise, apart from ease of set-up?

@felagund , you are right, there is no difference except for the OAuth thingy. Not really sure that is easier to use even, but Google makes it easier by making the use of normal login harder as you have to change settings.
