How to display full URL in URL bar?
-
It seems that Vivaldi, like Chrome and Firefox doesn't display the full URL, eg. only shows "kd2.org" instead of "http://kd2.org/" in URL bar. How can I disable this non-feature and see the real URL? Thanks.

I see the whole URL here. I didn't do anything special to get it. What version number are you on?
Edit: if the protocol is just http and not https or similar, you have to click on the URL bar to see the prefix.

Yup that's what I'm telling, the protocol is not displayed, I don't want any part of the URL hidden.

That's the first time I see a request for a complete URL in the address bar. Makes sense though. Not even sure if it's to be considered a bug or a feature.

http:// protocol already shows full URL. Others don't necessarily do so.

I support this motion too. Parameters to the URL is snapped off,
Examples:
Facebook, full SSL:
www.facebook.com/username.here/about?section=relationship&pnref=about -> www.facebook.com/username.here/aboutI like to see whats REALLY going on, including all parameters etc
Kind Regards

Focus address bar (F8) should make them visible

I know I'm a little late to this but since this is one of the first Google search results, I thought I should provide the solution.
At least by now, there's a setting in "Settings > address bar" called "Show full URL"
Thank you. Its my fault I haven't spent enough time (5 day user of vivaldi) going through the settings, but I must stay this is also a "101" of basic web browsing.
Just like the status bar, which is not supposed to be web programming influenced .. such that "on hover" makes it possible to show something other than the URL you might be planning to click .. these things (proper/full url with protocol, status bar which should show uncorrupted information) are building blocks to teaching new users not to get taken on the web.
It bothers me developers seem to not understand this concept, or discard it, in the wake of "The Now", "The New", or "The Avant garde". Hopefully in the 12 months since this was opened the "first time hearing of this" has worn off and they've decided to search the web themselves when users pose such questions to them for the Vivaldi browser, so they could get the understanding of why its needed, and of the volume of users that want it, or that benefit from such things.

Yes, full url should be on by default
It used to be off, don't know if behaviour is changed. -

It used to be off, don't know if behaviour is changed. No, it hasn't changed. Caught me out as a new Vivaldi user since the default in Vivaldi is actually different to Chrome.
Chrome always display's the full URI. Vivaldi doesn't, only the domain and sub-domain. This is really dangerous in my opinion. It is also annoying as sites with deep links look like they don't change URI's correctly when you change location - you have to click in the address bar before you can see what is going on.
While I'm mainly liking Vivaldi so far - and it is nice to be out from under the Google thumb - this seems like a poor choice of default.

I completely agree with you, it's probably the 1st bad thing I noticed since Vivaldi 1.0, and luckily can be changed in settings. I'm still wondering why it's set by default. For Dumb people? Dumb people need to get smarter, not the way around.

@Gwen-Dragon Thanks for the pointer. I will try to do that.

I've found 1 other thing - the Window sidebar only shows the current window's tabs, not all. That would be a really nice addition. Thankfully, I've discovered F2 which helps but having a list of all windows/tabs in the sidebar would be ideal.

@knightnet That's fun, I read time ago it shows by default only the partial URL for avoid phishing. But actually I find is the opposite; partial URL always confused me. And it's not mainstream in browsers, which probably confuse even more.
The issue is: both are right and wrong. I'll simply put the option in vivaldi first run page. -

This is a bit of a trick so that you can't see referrals, for instance.
I also want to see what is really going on. -
