@Gwen-Dragon . You really had some hard task here for me, hadn`t you?
Ok, I somehow managed it:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/86.0.4240.101 Safari/537.36
Pressing F5 again and again and reCaptcha is not working - user-agent:
- user-agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; en-US) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/68.0
- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/86.0.4240.101 Safari/537.36
After testing by reloading the captcha with 'trace' on and off and different adjustments in 'trace' I am pretty sure that the user-agent is not the problem AND 'trace' makes the difference by adjusting some information which is sent. Though I do not know in which way it manage to achieve it.

@Gwen-Dragon I, too, am having recaptcha failure on every site that uses recaptcha after upgrading to Vivaldi 3.4 stable today:

Same issue on Windows 10 with the latest version. After disabling the extensions , I found the culprit. It was 'DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials' extensions causing it. However, in Chrome the same extension works fine, ie. reCaptchas are ok.
Vivaldi 3.4.2066.76 (Stable channel) (64-bit)

Fwiw, over the past few days i've also been getting reCaptcha failures on some sites, in Snapshot
3.4.2066.70 / Chrome 86.0.4240.95
. They seem to still work ok in FF-Nightly, with identical uMatrix settings, & even if i fully disable V's native blocking [which should not be necessary / never used to be necessary].Spoiler
.
.
Just before posting this i checked with Stable
3.4.2066.76 / Chrome 86.0.4240.101
at https://patrickhlauke.github.io/recaptcha/. It fails identically to Snapshot... clicking repeatedly on the little reCaptcha box does not generate the pictures popup, & eventually that error message instead pops up.
UPDATE.
Well, damnit ... despite not being needed in FF-Nightly, & afaik not being needed in older Vivaldis, atm the only way i can get reCaptcha to work in V is to enable Web Workers in uM ... not happy about this!I presume that Chromium 86 brought us this lovely new "gift"...

@iletunic I can confirm that disabling the 'DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials' extension on macOS Version 10.15.7 for Vivaldi 3.4.2066.76 (Stable channel) (64-bit) causes the recaptcha to operate correctly on all sites that use it.
UPDATE: Visit a page that uses recaptcha with 'DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials' extension ENABLED. recaptcha breaks. Now click on the 'DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials' button next to the URL input box and disable 'Site Privacy Protection'. This adds the site to the DDG list of unprotected sites. Refresh the page: recaptcha now works! If you remove the site from the list of unprotected sites, re-enable Site Privacy Protection, then reload the page, recaptcha breaks again.

@Gwen-Dragon Not complaining about Vivaldi at all! I love it. Just trying to clarify the details around the problem so everyone knows the workarounds. It looks like (at least temporarily) disabling the 'DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials' extension is a workaround. Thanks.

@Gwen-Dragon I looked for a way to report this to Duck Duck Go but cannot find any bug reporting mechanism on their web site. Does the Vivaldi dev team have a way of communicating bugs to those who build extensions?
-
@jtjaynes thanks man, worked fine for me.
As for DDPE extension, You could send a report when asked if site is broken after turning it off for the site.
-
@jtjaynes find it in the Chrome Web Store, click "Support"
-
@jtjaynes thank you very much! But just disabling the extension was not enough for me. I had to completely remove it from my browser, sadly
