How does Vivaldi make money?
-
I just recently stumbled across Vivaldi and I really like it and use it as my main browser on all my devices. Actually I like it so much that I wanted to donate to it, but when searching for a donation possibility it seems that you cannot donate to it but are rather encouraged to spread the word about Vivaldi.
If the browser is free, there are no ads and you cannot (seemingly) donate how on earth are VIvaldi making money to sustain and develop the browser?

How does Vivaldi make money? Who cares?
Seems they do a good job. For me that´s enough.
(certainly they also have a finance department...) -

Anyone who is not a fool. All too often, free software makes money out of users in ways that they may not permit if they knew, like selling their browsing habits to third-parties.
Some free software makes money by installing malware or PUPs onto your PC.

@Pesala , there are many methods of making money on the network and certainly many companies that offer software for free make the money less ethically.
But luckily there are also others who do not, Vivaldi settles for the revenue by sponsors whose links it incorporates by default and through its store. Another possibility that some use is to deposit money through the premium accounts of their software with added functions.
Always, if FOSS is not used, the privacy policy and conditions of use of the products must be read very well, which no one normally does.
Normally, more extensive and less understandable are these texts, the less reliable the conditions. One help can be this list to choose a product or service, also available as an extension. -
@Catweazle I don't use the extension, but tosdr.org is a great site. I prefer to keep the number of extensions I install to a minimum, but one could still have easy access to this information by creating a web panel from it or, as I have, create a custom search engine for it. These two features of Vivaldi have saved me from installing many extensions, which helps to reduce the uniqueness of my fingerprint.

@BoneTone , I,ve Tosdr in muy bookmarks, thats enough.
