Window snap leaves gap
-
Whenever I snap a vivaldi window to the edge of my screen (left/right to fill half the screen) there is a gap of around 10 pixels left between the window and the top of the screen. This only happens the first time I snap a window to the edge, if I do it again it works correctly and fills the space. It's quite annoying when you expect the close button to be top right but it's actually lower than it should be.
Latest vivaldi and windows version.

@Lrrr Hello - I cannot reproduce this here, Win10, tested in latest snapshot and stable with a clean profile.
Please post a screenshot if you can, or explain your tabs/address bar location, it might be relevant. Also if you're using the native window settings.
In addition test in a clean profile to exclude any extensions/other settings.
-
It just happened but it's not easily repeatable. What do you mean by native window settings?
-
@Lrrr That image is not of much help
Surely you can just open a window where you don't need to blur out the entire thing...I believe your issue, but I can't reproduce it here which means you need to give more information on your setup, since I can't tell from the blurred out image.
Post your OS and version info from Help > About.
What UI features of Vivaldi have you changed? Have you moved the location of the address bar / tab bar etc? Do you have status bar enabled? Do you use any mods, extensions?
Have you tried in a clean profile?
-
Sorry I thought you just wanted me to show what the problem looked like. If I open a new window the problem doesn't occur, it's only the first time that I try to do it and even then it's not repeatable (I tried a full restart and I couldn't get it to happen).

Posting more images fails for some reason, link instead:

I will try with a clean profile for awhile to see if I can replicate it.

I have problems with window snap too. In my case there is not enough of a gap and vivaldi overlaps other windows. I suspect this is a windows problem.
-
I just tried this and I saw the same thing happening. I couldn't snap the window to the left/right using
Win+Left/Right
, and when I dragged it manually to the left side and let go it left a small gap at the top of the screen (like in @Lrrr's last picture).Second try (and all after) work fine, also like @Lrrr says.
I'm on Windows 10 2004, Vivaldi 3.4.2038.4 (64-bit) -
Strange, I use snap frequently but haven't seen this issue, just tried again on latest stable without issue but I'll keep an eyes open since I snap my windows many times a day.

@BoneTone Yeah, I wonder what causes this. I don't get the gap, and in fact I get kind of the opposite effect when snapping to the sides, the lowest part of the status bar is concealed:
I wonder if it's related - only in -10px on the Y axis instead?
Vivaldi still has a lot of UI quirks in this area, specially for multi-monitor setups. For instance, when tiled to the left on my (rightmost) main monitor, the Alt menu displays on the other monitor to the left (which is often turned off).
I wonder if it's related to multi-monitor setups? Or maybe taskbar settings (hidden or not)? Maybe DPI scaling plays a part. Or Graphics card/drivers. Maybe a combination of several settings.
I think the best thing is for you guys who have the issue get your heads together and figure out what possible variables you have in common on your systems. Once you figure out how to reproduce in a clean profile, it should be easy for the team to find and fix.
*EDIT': I notice from the screenshot posted that the same bottom thing I have is also there, except I have the taskbar hidden:
Hmm, I wonder if that transparent taskbar is related too? How do you achieve that effect, standard Win settings?

@Pathduck
Missed your last sentence: "Hmm, I wonder if that transparent taskbar is related too? How do you achieve that effect, standard Win settings?"
I have an app that does it called TranslucentTB from Microsoft store. A bit daft for me as my taskbar's the same colour as my screen. -
@Pathduck All good potential causes...
I had this half written before life took precedence...
Is it possible that those experiencing this issue have some specific desktop modifications, using third-party apps to customize the UI, disabled parts of the UI like system tray, any special screensaver, windows decorations, desktop widgets, etc. I've moved my taskbar to the right, which makes the available vertical space even greater, but it still fills it.

This is exactly the type of thing I was thinking about. Does the problem reproduce when you have this turned off? And any other UI modifications like that?

I'm using a single-monitor setup with an always-visible bottom taskbar set to never combine taskbar buttons. Windows scaling is 100 %, no Windows UI mods.
I tried reproducing the bug again today but snapping worked as expected, so it's either triggered by something or happens randomly.
Graphics card: Radeon RX 5700 XT, driver 20.7.2
OS: Windows 10 2004 -
@Pathduck I use Start10 by Stardock to make the taskbar transparent. I'll disable it and see if it still happens. No other desktop mods etc.
One other thing to note about my screenshot, the vivaldi window is off to the left side of the screen by a few pixels too.
I have a second monitor (TV) but it's on the right, the resolution of that is 1080 whereas my main monitor is 1440, just in case anyone else has a similar setup and also experiences the problem.

As I said, my taskbar is the same colour as my wallpaper so I turned the app off. Just turned it on again, performed a Snap and all's exactly as it should be, everything fits, it actually appears to have fixed it! I wasn't expecting that, I shall leave the app on.
Edit:
OK, I need to take that back, I closed Vivaldi, remembered I hadn't quite finished, re-opened it and performed another Snap, this time the lower part of the status bar is hidden again. Oh well, the mysteries of the PC eh? -
