Saving page for offline viewing didn't work
-
I found these vivaldi help instructions: link text
I couldn't find the referenced 'download page' in the vivildi menu. so i use 'save pages as'. it had me pick a folder, and downloaded a folder full of data and page url.
later, offline, clicking on the url in the folder, or going to vivaldi download window and clicking on the url, got me nothing. a blank window.
helpful comments?

@astro46 Hi, that help article is for the Android version.
For "Save page as" there's three choices.
- Webpage, HTML only: just the basic HTML source, no external resources.
- Webpage, Single File: will save a MHTML file. This is probably the best choice to keep a local page.
- Webpage, Complete: Will save the basic HTML with a sub-folder containing all external resources.
The Windows dialog is a bit broken currently (known bug) - so make sure to select the type you want before you download to make sure the file extension is correct.
Saving files for local viewing does not always work like expected, modern web pages are often just too complex to save correctly. For basic saving of an article you want to read later it might work fine, but other times it's just not possible. Sometimes you will need to do basic editing of the saved files just to make it display.
It would help if you gave an example of the page you wanted to save.

That's a revelation. Thanks.
Would have been helpful, apparently necessary, to mention this at the vivaldi help page. I changed the default save, html, to mhtml, and the resulting download worked as expected.
the vivaldi help file is apparently out of date and doesn't apply to the current version. I am guessing that the old instruction to 'download page' automatically used mhtml. Assuming that I am not the only person downloading pages for offline use, the 'download page' option should be restored, since most people are not going to know to change the file saving type, and be as disapointed as I was, to find out that vivaldi failed them.
